What was that route, Rob500 and is there anything like flatish routes in Northern Ireland ?
Toroddf, normally I'll take down into town and head out to Carrick or beyond to Whitehead. This is pretty flatish.

BTW. Nice website. I see you've been over the hills of the Seven Mile Straight and Ballyutoag.

Picked up a Viking Fixie/SS today and was itching to take it out, its not the lightest of bikes but its 10x better than the BSO and RWGPS says its 5-6mph faster over 22.5miles ;) In my desire to get out, I set the saddle too high (the same height as my other bikes but I'm not wearing clipless at the moment)

Well, my new recovery formula seems to be working well...^_^.

60.4 miles this evening doing a bit of reconnaisance work for the road race this Sunday. Since, and including last Saturday, that's 275 miles on the road this week.

Clevedon – Yatton – Wrington – Burrington – A368 – West Harptree - - Bishop Sutton – Stowey – A37 – A368 – Stowey – A37 – A368 – Bishop Sutton – West Harptree – B3114 – Chewton Mendip – A39 – Bathway – Torhole Bottom – B3135 – Castle of Comfort – Burrington Coombe – A38 – Langford – Congresbury – Yatton – Clevedon.

Just a short ride of about 10 miles this evening with my brother in which we discovered my fettling last night was satisfactory, rode through an unexpected flood (given that it hasn't rained in over a week here), and found that wet pedals + a high gear + a crossbar equal ouch.

On a non-cycling related note I was required to visit the pretty village of Knockin earlier today and of course passed the local shop:

This place does of course have a certain amount of fame so I apologise if you've seen it before.

Went down to Newburn and thought I'd try the Keelman's Way to South Shilds, through the Cycle Tunnel under the Tyne and back home on Route 10....
Missed the turn off for the tunnel cycletrack and had to double back 5 miles... then missed the link to Route 10 from Wallsend and did a big loop back onto it...so 61.5 miles in total. Keelman's Way was a revelation... followed the river bank nearly all the way- very green and pleasant. I hadn't appreciated how wooded the banks of the Tyne are between Gateshead and South Shields. Lovely sunny evening.

[Edit: Just noted that if I'd gone another mile, that would have been my first solo 100km! Aw well, next time!]

I'd only planned on the short commute but when I took the bike out of the car boot its front tyre had already went down borrowed a track pump and cycled the 1.25 miles on it and thought I repair it at lunchtime, I was going to an lbs to buy a multi tool, etc and could buy another spare tube. OK till then the tyre was a nightmare though and it took me 30-40 minutes to get it off with a snapped lever and another trip to the lbs to buy another set. So I had put the tyre back on after work, it was just as hard to get on as it was to get off; I'm guessing the muppets in Cycle King pinched it putting it in yesterday; judging by the scratch marks on new rims they'd used tyre levers to do it! I then set about to fettle the saddle height/angle/ setback when I noticed the muppets had put the post in backwards so that the clamp was awkwardly clamping the front of the saddle rails; I sorted that but then realised in clamping it wrongly the clamp was bent slightly out of shape so it couldn't clamp the lower (horizontal) saddle rail properly, hence the saddle could slide! Back at the b&b I cut up the old tube (which I was going to repair) and put a piece of that in each clamp and it seems to be OK. So after all that I went out for a quick ride on the bike to test it out and relieve the my stress. When I got back I took this pic. The shubbery at the b&b is rapidly engulfing it ;)

1st ride today after 2 weeks "climate training" . . . that being 1/2ft above see level on a lounger next to the med in the 30degree heat in Cyprus with a beer

Only had 5 hours sleep from the flight last night so the Mrs and I took it easy and just went through middlewood/poynton and back via the parents through Woodford/Bramhall. REALLY missed the bike whilst I was away, I might have a problem ?

Met a couple of gents who asked us for directions to a particular tea room. They were on a Tea Room and Pie Shop tour. Sounds like an amazing idea ;)

A bit over 27 miles today to the east and the north of Shrewsbury. It was another leisurely ride as I was with friends, so no speed records in danger of falling.

A highlight was that as we approached Hadnall a DC3 Dakota in D-Day livery flew low overhead (approx 150 feet up I reckon) on its way to do a flypast at the Shropshire County Show (which used to be the West Mid Show for those that know it). Lovely sight, I wish I'd been ready with my camera.
