Hard (for me!) 55 miler yesterday with the Mrs in the beautiful sunshine north of York: best average speed yet of >18 mph (but it was absolutely pan flat).

Tasty Ploughmans in Boroughbridge 2/3rds of the way round too!

A very pleasant and leisurely 40 odd miles on the MTB. Intentionally flat route to see if my hip injury has recovered yet (jury still out; hasn't had time to stiffen up .. yet). Got the train to Kilbirnie then the NCN railway path to Paisley; wee (and I mean WEE!) ferry across the Clyde to Yoker, then out to Clydebank to check out the Vango Banshee 200 tent (which BTW is 400 grammes heavier than they claim on their website so I won't be buying it. Not enough of a weight saving over current tent). From Clydebank headed into Glasgow on the Union canal - or is it the Forth and Clyde; I always get them mixed up. Turned off at Maryhill and went along the Kelvin cycle path which is new territory for me and very pleasant it was. Into Glasgow Central Station for the train home .

Ahhhh; Boroughbridge! Passed through on the Way of the Roses last year and tasted the best carrot cake EVER, at Gilchrist the bakers on the main street. Was down that way a few months later on the motorbike and just had to visit Gilchrists again. This time I had a full breakfast and it was also excellent. So good that I had to buy the carrot cake to take with me as I couldn't face it after the rather large breakfast!

Made a proper attempt at spinning today after reading MossCommuter's cassette/chain thread and lo and behold, my average speed went up by 2 mph compared to the last time I rode that particular route. :wahhey:

Alas, t'was not as successful weatherwise. I set off in shorts and my sleeves rolled up but the clouds/mist descended again after a couple of miles and that was the last of today's :sun:. *grump* :cold:

The Spring into the Dales audax ride is in about a month's time, so thought I'd make use of a bit of free time today and get some hilly miles in. I drove up to Oxenhope and then followed the Spring into the Dales route. (By starting in Oxenhope, I missed out about 12 miles and the horrible hill between Hebden Bridge and Oxenhope). 55 hilly miles in total. Only disappointment was that the cafe I was planning on stopping at was closed on Mondays. Not to worry - plodded on and found a gorgeous pub a couple of miles before Applewick. The sun came out just as I stopped, so I enjoyed gammon steak, fried eggs, chips and peas outside in the lovely sunshine.
:sun:

Very tiring day, but very satisfying and pleased to report all hills were ridden with no walking!

A fast 30 miles for me today on dry roads  I timed it wrong leaving and got caught up in the school run peak but other than that I felt good, despite the windy and hilly start. Taking out the town it was 18.3mph; there's still one set of traffic lights and a few junctions and a lorry going along a single track road! which I had to stop for so maybe the average moving speed was higher but who knows but it felt good after crawling up the hills yesterday ;)

Day off today and was woken with painful calf cramp, my own fault as I've not had cereal or been drinking milk the last few days, plus I had a heavy session in the gym yesterday.

Set off at 11am with the plan of doing 40miles, but my calf still wasn't right. Dropped down to Cheshire, but headed home before hitting North Shropshire, didn't even stop at a pub:sad:

Weather and family permitting I'm going to Llangollen tomorrow via Worlds end and think I'll come home along the canal for a change

Had to take the MTB to work as my road bike is in for repair. I took the off road way via the TPT and through parks/golf clubs etc. Enjoyed it massively  The difference in my mood this morn compared to after the train journey yesterday is rather large.

Amazing how many trails/cut throughs there are when you are looking for them, I cut the commute by 1 mile just bytaking one path through a golf club that you can't do on a road bike.

100Km bike ride down to Creaton - back via Haselbech Naseby, the amusingy named Marston Trussell Sadington Arnesby then home. Saw more phesants than people in Northamptonshire......

It was grey but dry day here today and 4 of us decided to do the approximate route of the Dunfermline Sportif. It was a tad windy but one of our group spent a bit longer than the rest of us on the front, chapeau. If I could descend things would have been a lot easier then but I chickened out on the descents and only reached 39.6mph going down the Wicks, I'm sure the others would have been +40mph. I'll have to do a lot better with eating/drinking on the move too, I was beginning to run out of energy before the cafe but the coffees and egg roll gave me fresh energy ;-)

I did a brisk 25 miles or so up and down part of the trans-pennine trail. Quite foggy to start with, but soon cleared to lovely sun.

I was left with a nagging feeling though.

What the hell do the people of Chesterfield and environs feed their dogs on? Approaching the outskirts of Chesterfield, there were huge piles, and I mean huge, of bright orange turds! Bright orange? What's that all about??
