Two hours on the MTB. It's the first time I've done over 2 hours since the crash, and also the first time I've really relaxed and enjoyed it too. Just a great ride really, and also my first ride of the year in short sleeves. (Summer will soon be here, and then I'll be moaning it's too hot!)

I decided to tackle the hill that's been sneering at me for the past 7 months on my trips to Holmfirth; Holme Moss.

Set off about 8am and realised pretty quickly that I didn't need the winter jacket I was wearing. Ah well - it proved useful on the tops though!

Went through Mirfield & Huddersfield (strong headwinds) to Holmfirth and set off up to the hill. I stopped just before going up and someone else (fully lyra'd) pulled in just after me; didn't say hello and was behind me. Ah well!

I started off and got past the 1 mile and 3/4 mile markers. The other rider was about 50 metres back. By the 1/2 mile I was getting puffed, but the other rider was now about 100 back :heat: . Saw the 1/4 mile and then what I thought was the line. Only it wasn't - there's a 200 yards to go :cursing: then a 100 yards to go line :cursing: before the top. Made it up and waited, but he never appeared

Went over the other side to Woodhead pass, with 3 other riders going up and 3 waiting to start their climb. Then left onto the A628 and saw the TransPennine Trail sign. "I'll take that" I thought - so went up some more hills before getting a bit tired. Windmill Cafe was a welcome stop and I had the treat of Apple Pie & Custard for making it up

Went back via Shelley, but I'd no food left so bought a Creme Egg and then up to Emley Mast. From there I'd the choice of Mirfield & the steep climb from Dewsbury to home (I live on a hill above Dewsbury) or down to Horbury and a long slope. I wasn't sure my legs would do the climb so took the Horbury route, where I was very nearly left-hooked by a non-indicating white Audi. :cursing:

Overall did 59.2 miles in 4 hours 27. Slow, but it was getting up Holme Moss which counted.

And I'm planning to do it all again next Saturday morning in preparation for the Cheshire Cat & the Brian Robinson sportives, with the latter going up Holme Moss.

Haven't done Holme Moss for some time. When you are grinding away, puffing like a train the last thing you want to see is a sign written on the road saying it's 'only' another 3/4 of a mile to the top.^_^

40 urban miles starting in Bolton and taking in Radcliffe, Pilsworth, Heywood, Rochdale, Castleton, Middleton, Manchester, Salford, Swinton, Kearsley, Farnworth and back to Bolton. All the scenic areas of the great North West

and all was going great guns until I got a ruddy rear wheel p******* about 7 miles from home caused by a tiny piece of glass :cursing: Still, at least I know my new Topeak Road Morph works

Well while most of my club headed to the Manchester Velodrome, I headed off into County Durham for a solo ride. The destination was Wolsingham, and little breezy on the way out and a bit of climbing to do into a headwind. Bumped into a couple of guys I know at the cafe so the coffee break was a bit too long and had my legs thinking that I had finished for the day, so the climb out of Wolsingham on the return had them confused lol!

Weather was glorious.

Beautiful sunny day to go for a ride. It was chilly when I set off and I regretted having a jacket on even after 5 miles. Nevertheless I enjoyed a nice 45 miles out around Sherburn, Church Fenton, Wistow and Selby.
Flattish so ideal for fixed. ^_^
I had left my drinks bottle at home so stopped for a much needed bottle of water in Monk Fryston to find I had only 65 pence in my pocket. Fortunately a bottle of Harrogate's finest set me back.................65 pence.

It was the club MTT today and I was marshalling at it but when I got up it was a glorious day despite a stiff wind and I decided to go out for a quick 20 miler beforehand. After two sleepless nights and a sore stomach, I maybe shouldn't have bothered, I felt crap so it was actually a slow 20miler. My other ride isn't really a ride 7 miles up to the start of the MTT on the heavy town bike and a wee bit of a detour on the way back. If anybody is interested I was pushing the riders off so I had plenty of time to take a few snaps on my phone.

Have to say effin miserable 57 miles with 1800ft of climbing I say miserable because the cloud never lifted all day I was only out for 3 hours and was hoping as I approached mid day the sun would come out Instead I just about managed to stay with the wind gillet instead of adding the full sleeved rain cape which I had to do a couple of weeks ago.
