Here for rides.
Loaded up my panniers with bottles for the bottle bank and rode from my sister's house (where I am house sitting / baby sitting the Aged P) down the hill and along NCN4 to Neyland. Raced a skip truck up Neyland High Street, in the teeth of a howling wind, got my breath back whilst banking the bottles, back down to the co-op and bought papers and some milk and a Fry's Turkish Delight.

Consumed said confectionery whilst twiddling out of town towards Milford Haven as the sun was still shining. Nothing much happening there so came back the long way to Rosemarket and cooked Aged P his lunch.

No distance at all really. He is completely baffled as to why I didn't use the car.

The new Visitor Centre at Pickering Railway Station opened on Tuesday so I decided to go along and have a look.

Home - Hovingham - Slingsby - Great Marton - Pickering - Great Barugh - Amotherby - Coneysthorpe - Terrington - Sheriff Hutton - Home.

56.67 miles. Weather sunny periods, cool & breezy. Good views from the high points.

It wasn't obvious where the vc was and I had to ask station staff who directed me to platform 2. It still wasn't obvious as I opened the big green solid doors as I thought it might be a staff restroom, but it was ok I had found it. Very informative and well worth the trip, it wasn't busy at all. The same could be said for the steam locomotive 44767 George Stephenson which left for Grosmont at 1320, there weren't many people on board. In fact it appeared there were more station staff, all unpaid volunteers, than passengers but there were a lot of photographers around the platform.

I finally got around to new cables and bar tape but I cant remember where my cable cutters are  In disgust I went to get some messages from a local supermarket and there on the shelf was a set of cable cutter for £2; they'll probably get blunt fast but they did the trick last night and new cables and bar tape were fitted in time for the Sunday Club Run, I'd forgotten that most of the club were away for the annual get away in Pitlochry but another rider turned up and we battled the wind together to Corrieri's  and had a wind assisted return :becool:

23 miles from Liverpool to Warrington in damp conditions and made hassle-unfree by the marathon which diverted me left right and centre for 45 minutes. Felt fresh as a daisy tho.

Good weekend for my cycling!

An evening sortie in the dark and the cool drizzle. Just for a change and so I can appreciate going out in 'good' weather.

37 and a bit miles out via Arthington and Pool in Wharfedale, Castley, Weeton, Dunkeswick, Pannal, Kirby Overblow, Wetherby, Throrner and home again.

I thoughroughly enjoyed it despite getting wet through.

The alternative was some tosh on telly or doing my tax return. No contest really.

Two short rides today, two different bikes used.
Circa 11 miles this morning round town on the Bianchi, just to stretch the legs. Havnt done much mileage lately, this wind was howling out of side streets making me fairly unstable, cars are not giving the room you need making it moderately unsafe when wobbling, so cut it short somewhat.

Took the winter commuter out this afternoon, circa 15 miles round trip to the hospital to visit me dad. Didnt want to lock up the Bianchi outside, hence using the Raleigh.
Walking through the hospital, helmet in hand, commuting gear on did make me stand out somewhat

Just a short 9 miles for me today on the heavy hybrid up to the local'ish bike shop owned by a mate to get a new gear cable, came out to a p'ture though but after spending 15 minutes changing that  I probably still got home faster wind/gravity assisted than it took to get there. Note to myself I really should fix it gears too so 48/28 isn't my lowest gear available.

Went on a club ride today, it was supposed to be to Corrieri's cafe but somebody said it was shut and developed a mechanical, so we headed to Dunning instead and we were averaging 19.2mph, then somebody suggested Wicks Of Baiglie and my average fell, it was 18.1mph when we went our separate ways.

Edit: Note to self, I'm going to have to look at removing the crank/ankle rub its prevent me from spinning the 38t fast enough.

Felt tired and jaded all day, i only got 4 hours sleep last night, just couldn't get off...so this afternoon, despite feeling lethargic, grabbed myself by the scruff of the neck and did a few circuits round town.
Boy do i feel better  , circa 17 miles and stayed on the 50T.

A very useful 46 miles today, to recce my potentail routes to new work 20 miles away at Chatteris (i aim to part commute by bike, maybe park up 10 miles away and cycle the rest).
Peterborough to Pondersbridge, then along the Ramsey Forty Foot dyke, a known danger spot in winter, about 6 miles long. Well there's no way i'm cyc;ing along there. Very narrow hard shoulder, icy in winter and the wind howls along open countryside. There's barely a year goes by when someone doesnt get killed by skidding into the dyke.
Back from Chatteris towards Ramsey on the main Wisbeach road, there's no way i'm cycling down there, too many lorries, narrow hard shoulder, too windy
Off at Wimblington and into the countryside, toward Benwick. Nice partly open country roads, this is more like it.
Stopped in at an old friends at Benwick for a cuppa and got some unknown shortcuts, so when the weathers ok, i've got my route.
Set off from Peterborough with the wind in my face, but could sustain 15mph but once on the Forty foot, down to 12/13mph and hard hard work. Managed 14.5mph average to Chatteris.
Return run, nice tail wind, averaged 17.5mph average without much effort really.

A very nice run, suns shining, but it's blowy.

A rather hilly 40 miles today, up to Triscombe Stone in the Quantocks. Lots of fun, fantastic weather for most of it, legs feeling mostly ok.

A very gentle 26 miles in glorious sun, might have been last day in shorts. Had a look at the forum and expected few posts because I thought everyone would be out on their bikes

Hey TF, if you live in the only county without a McDonalds does that mean all the University educated kids have to commute to neighbouring counties for work ?
