It was a public holiday today so traffic was fairly light. I decide to have an easy 60 km ride - an adaptation of one of my longer rides. Left home at 6:30 and there was no traffic at all. P*nct*re about halfway round and then I heard a sound that I haven't heard for over 20 years - PING! I popped a spoke in my rear wheel.

took 3 guys around in the woods on some long climbs last night. i have never led any one on my trails beofre so a little trepidation.
are the trails good enough?
too hard too easy?

thankfully they loved it and i hope will come over more often as we have hours of bridleway to ride and they are not from this part of the county. so a very happy mtb'er this morning.

Nice ride today. 29.63miles done in 1:34:36. Was putting in loads of power again. Seem to be using the drops more and going on the hoods and keeping my body low at the moment. Not sure why, but my speeds are higher, and i have been wanting to really put more effort and go faster with a tail wind, and try and keep a good pace with a headwind.
Had some kiddy on a moped bike thing shout as they came past, was going to go after him but he was just overtaking everything infront of him, and came past the truck behind me when a car was going the other way. I think he wont be on the road for long riding like thatxx(

bloody grim today. drizzle for 50 miles! well almost, strangely enough we had a couple of fine miles around settle where because of the hills i'd expected heavier rain.we saw some blue sky , a patch about 20 x 10 feet:biggrin: long time since I've seen that, or at least thats the way it feels.
roll on summer.

Set off and a quarter of a mile into the ride the higher jockey wheel flew off after the bolt on it went ;) No long ride tomorrow and go and beg for a spare bolt if they LBSs do 'em.

I went up Box Hill this morning. Mild as it was I was bloody freezing going back down. Was wearing the long sleeve CC jersey.

IF YOU GO TO BOX HILL IT GETS VERY COLD IN THE SHADE!

First club run for best part of 20 years today and first ride on a fixed for just as long. Just under 50 miles in 2hr 45min average of 17.9 mph. I'm sure a couple of the old hands were deliberately keeping the speed high on the tailwind return, revenge for old times LOL. (they did admit as much)

Thoroughly enjoyed the ride, first time in a group for a long time and the Pearson Touche was very lively and comfortable at the same time, loved the extra control that riding fixed offers and climbing the hills was like a dream. Was dropped numerous times on the downhills and navigating tight bends which only added to the enjoyment of spinning like mad to get back on. Definately riding the heaviest bike of the group with full guards and rear rack, specifically purchased for commuting, the other riders were all on their carbon and titanium race bikes, what a buzz, hooked on fixed again already.

Into Derby to the hills. 87miles, in 5:19:14 i think. Very hilly, very hard. One i had to zig zag up standing up to keep my speed going. Another, i kept thinking, ah we are at the top, we will stop to wait for the people going slow, but it went up, and up and upxx( That hurt.
Then we missed a left turn, i got up to 47.96mph and then had to go back up the hill to get to the turn off. That was a hard hill.
It was a nice ride though, very different and if i wasnt on holiday next weekend, i will be out again.
Not sure why though, my legs were hurting and hurt abit now and i'm a tad tired:wacko:

I went out with for a cycle with the Edinburgh SPOKES group; it was a really slow 59miles but really enjoyable. There were a few fast bits on the way back downhill and with the wind behind me; I hit a max of 40.4mph, I think that's the fastest that hybrid has been.
Oh coming home was funny, I got a dodgy overtake from some neds, overtaking on a short right hand bend (Manor Place to Melvil Street Edinburgh) when one of the neds put his head out of the window, "these **** cyclist get everywhere", it think it might have been because I was wearing an Australia top, I just said yeah, I couldn't think of anything witty at the time and I can't do a Oz accent. The wind was behind me and I just proceeded to overtake them.

We had someone on the club ride have their jockey wheel come off. He never shouted, we didnt notice untill just before he walked in and someone asked where he was.
He ended up crawling around on the floor looking for it, then fitted it again. Then took a longer route to the cafe.

Crickey! I was just freaked out that such a strange break happened so close to home. It's not a big deal but the bolt/bushel was gone so that was that. Went for a 7 mile walk instead. Best days weather here for a while.
