Well, first road ride since September: I know but I have mostly been running and some mtn biking. I had no idea how running fitness would translate so I just did a 10 mile loop. Lovely day, very enjoyable and i was happy with a 16 mph average. Don't know yet if that heralds a return to road cycling, we'll see but I did enjoy it.

Had a little play with the route directions on my FR305. They worked but I think I'll have to fine tune where I put them as some were too early and some too late but eminently usable to navigate an unknown route.

The Atlantic Canada roads and temperatures finally permitted my first ride of the year. 25 miles a week running throughout the winter has kept my cardio-vascular fitness up and I covered a 40 mile loop at 15mph. Traffic was nice and light once I got out of town but the shoulders are gravel-strewn and cracked. As usual on the island I was fighting into a battering headwind, gusting to 35mph. Plenty of ploughed fields in evidence, with rich red soil ready to take the potato crop. It was still only 6 degrees first thing this morning but this afternoon they forecast a big swing to 20 degrees - hope it lasts.

Lovely day out there for a quick ride, so I did. I forgot my cycle computer, but the ride was roughly my normal [quick] route which is about 4 miles. I did spot someone on a recumbent on the way though

I had a ride out to Prudhoe following the Keelmans way on the north side of the river Tyne and returned via the south side. Total distance was 51 miles and TBH it was probably a little ambitious since I haven't ridden more than 10 miles in 7 weeks. I'm aching for England at the moment and wondering how I am going to manage the Northern Rock Cyclone in a few weeks.
Now that I'm sitting down I'm glad that I did the ride but the midges were terrible.

Just went out for a quick ride around the local area and through the woods - Lots of dog walkers out and a man with a metal detector who appeared to be receiving help from his own dog in digging for buried treasure

Spotted an MPV taxi driver on his mobile phone when on the way back :/ May have footage on my camera, but whats the point in doing anything with it.

Thought I would sneak out for a cheeky ride before Mrs H71 got home. Riding along nice quiet country lane in Cheshire minding my own business when I heard a rustling in the hedge I was cycling beside. A rabbit bolted out thought it was going to run under my front wheel, it swerved and ran along in between me and the hedge for about thirty yards, gave me a real fright. At one with nature

First late evening ride without needing lights.... bliss... on and off-road with the hybrid, late evening sun catching the trees and South Downs and illuminating everything against the very threatening black clouds rolling in- kicked myself for not taking a camera!

Completed my first race this evening. just over 20 miles in 54mins, finishing in the main pack. I was delighted not to get dropped and enjoyed the cut and thrust of trying to get away off the front on occasions(didn't manage it!).

Can hardly wait for the next one!

22 mph  Well done.
I know thats the required speed to be competetive, but as a 52 year old relatively fit fella i cant get anywhere near that. As a solo rider very few people overtake me, but you always know theres a lot faster guys out there...but its a shock when you calculate it out.

I'm 56 and until this year I had a similar mindset to yourself, however, at new year I decided to join a club and train a bit more seriously. I have now got 4 TT's and a race under my belt and I'm enjoying every minute.

I even think I can now call myself a 'real cyclist'.

18 miles after work, just circuiting round a local part of the city.

Got used to wearing a helmet over this last winter after a colleague was knocked off..i never used to wear. Today with some nice temps, i find a sweaty head and matted hair . Might think about wearing for commuting only and stay helmetless for longer countryside rides.
