Decided to have a play on the mtb today.

12 miles around Ennerdale valley and splashing through all the puddles. Came back filthy but it was fun .

82 miles round Strangford Loch. When the sun was out, chuff it was hot, when it rained it was bouncing off the road and the wind was gentle but persistant. Blew at 70 miles, gel, water and a some food fixed it but never really recovered. Last couple of hills were tough.

One of my companions had an off, wet road, diesel at the bottom of a long hill, never stood a chance. The choice was a wall and over into the loch or a big bush, so the bush got it. Some scrapes and minor cuts. No major damage and the bike was undamaged. Great day even the wet bits.

The rain the BBC forecast never arrived and an enjoyable ride to Shakerstone by the scenic route in bright sunshine. The only spoiler was a strong cold wind and a near left hook, here http://www.multimap.com/maps/#map=5...ft, Leicester, Leicestershire, England, LE9 3
fortunately I was able to brake and avoid it, the girl in the car seemed to be in a world of her own. I hadn't been to Shakerstone for years and it was nice see the old battlefield line station again. http://www.ask.com/bar?q=Battlefiel...bfZuID8mawk3hp19SJ6LBxZ/OQ=&tsp=1274041281790

Went out form the first time in months and did 23 miles. I found it a bit of a struggle especially since I am porkier than I was on my last ride and I had a headwind on the outward leg. Rode from Meanwood through Harewood onto Otley and back to Meanwood via Bramhope.

Saw a red kite near Eccup and my first road kill deer near Harewood House. Also discovered that my Nokia 5800 phone will create gpx files that I can upload into www.mapmyride.com. Also found that my cycle computer is over-reading by 0.8 percent.

A productive ride!

Did 17 miles around the B roads near Warwick this morning. Really enjoyed it and was amazed how many riders I saw (must have been 40+)

Well.... it was a bad start to the day..... looked out the window and that nasty
wet stuff was falling from the sky!. Shortly after, a txt arrives from the Lardster enquiring if the precipitation was going to stop play? To his amazement I suggested we went for a spin on the hacks....he asked if I was feeling well - the cheek!. It was only a light drizzle, and as I hadn't ridden for a few days I felt I had to get on a bike....and there is no way I was going to get my pride and joy wet!
We set off for Mumbles, where the rain got a little heavier, but I plodded on without complaining. We decided to visit Trams cafe for a coffee.. Lardy nagged and nagged that he was hungry all the way down ,so when he saw that Tramps did a full English (full Welsh was available with cockles and laverbread) he placed his order.... and as you can see he was a bit peckish!

I had a fruit smoothie! honest....

We set off again and the rain got heavier. I have to say that full guards are fab, my feet were dry and all I was suffering from was a moist helmet madam.....

Lard insisted on taking a pic to prove to the guys that I had indeed been out in the rain..

have to say it was quite enjoyable in a very strange way??? may change my name to Fairweather..ish

The nearest you got to a fruit smoothie today was the sachet of HP sauce!

By the time I got home I was wondering why I felt so tired? I nodded off on the sofa for 30 mins. After seeing that photo it's a miracle I made it home at all!

Longest ride to date - Worcester to Ross-on-Wye and back, 74 miles. The weather wasn't too bad, I managed to avoid most of the rain and what there was was just enough to cool me down

Great to hear you're back on the bike.

Why have you been off it? Injury or just life getting in the way?

A bit of both - I've has a string of low level respiratory infections, had a spell of permanent fatigue and generally found it easier to say no to getting myself out and about. Then it's been chasing up coursework from reluctant pupils - it would be much less stressful if teachers were allowed to let pupils reap the rewards of their own indolence. Coursework issues now over and have more free time.

However in the next three months I've got three festivals , two gigs and a 1000 mile cycle tour through France to get through. Just need to find the time to get some riding in to prime myself for the tour

You ever tried walking over a large station concourse with a bike...I do and I may as well be f'kin invisible..so now I just treat people they way they treat me.

Oh, I dunno.... last time I walked on a station platform with my bike was at Preston, catching the train up to Scotland. I was aware of a certain amount of interest in my lycra shorts from a couple of young women sitting waiting for their train. Presumably they don't often see cyclists "in the flesh".

Some mad fool suggested a 6am start yesterday and when the alarm went off at 4.45am I looked out on leaden skies, a brisk wind and drizzle. I nearly went back to bed but by 5.30am it was blue skies so off we went for a forty mile bimble out to and over Beacon Fell and back. The mad fool turned out to be an angel in disguise because she had also arranged for a local pub to have sixteen full English breakfasts ready for our return. There were only fourteen of us by then so everybody got extras. ;)

Its all crap at the moment
Dogs got problems (vets last night) and to cap it all i ran over a squirrel this morning. It was running alongside on a kerb, i gave it (what i thought was) plenty of room, only for it to dart straight into my front wheel. Hopefully i only hit its tail and it'll have a chance...it did disappear off so hopefully i havnt fatally injured it.

Otherwise, just a 6 mile commute, nice and sunny, hopefully i'll get some miles in after work.

Some days, you just want to get on the bike and not stop. Very busy at work...can't be bothered with it.

Anyway, enough of feeling sorry for myself...on with the day.

Nice day here in geordie land for a change, with very little wind.

So off through washington, Pelton, Burnhope to Lanchester then on over the top towards Stanhope. Some cracking views right across the Pennines.

Dropped off the top down into Edmundbyers, cafe was closed:sad:

Return leg via Shotley Bridge, Hamsterley Mill, Sunniside, Birtley and Washington.

Even remembered to to put my sun cream on. Anyway great day out, and my first real outing of the year with shorts on.

67 and a bit miles with 3950ft of climbing, and I felt every bit of it after my 76 miler on sunday. It still put a big  on my face.
