Sixty six miles from Selby to Epworth via Howden. Flew along at evens for most of the outward leg - got the nutrition right it seemed. The homeward leg was not so good - must have had a tailwind and a flat route offers no freewheeling respites on descents.

As I'd faffed around on the morning I didn't start the ride until 1:30 and two puntures on the homeward leg saw me finish in the dark. I enjoyed the night riding. I might do an overnight Audax when the temperatures rise.

well they made it as far as Stanford and were heading for yelvertoft at a good rate. there was one guy just falling off the back a bit, i remember him cos he had mudguards and a rack. not sure I'd be happy about being dropped like that
yeah, was bloody windy going back "the other way" ;)

Sounds like my mate, they finally unshipped him totally the other side of Yelvertoft, then they took a wrong turn in West Haddon and that was the last he saw of them. It took about two hours to do the thirty two miles out and two and a half hours to do the thirty miles back

well i just managed to pass him on the S-bends in Stanford before i dropped off down the "closed road". i guess the bunch were working well together to keep up that speed. myself and a couple of guys at the back were struggling to keep pace. not really what i cycle for but nice to see them snaking along ;)

loads of people out today. im definitely a solo rider but it was nice to have a bit company out there today.

Loads of people? I did Leicester to Brinklow (Coombe Abbey) then over to Lutterworth before heading home and only saw 1 old codger on a clapped out mountain bike - or were they all behind me?

If you like riding round Stanford/ Nazeby way are you doing the Squires & Spires?

mmm, looks tempting, the 50 mile route includes some of my commute and some of my leisure routes. shame about having to pay though, things are a bit tight at the moment. i could ride the same route for free and still join in ;) either way i'll look out for the riders that day

You get a cool t-shirt (really it is rather nice compared to some of the garish rubbish some do) and you can cram your pockets with go bars - which almost offsets the cost. Also it's a good laugh with a bunch of friendly people, even the triathlon types are almost human.

They do that pace or close to it most Sundays, I presume they had the wind behind them and were using it to wind it up. That was my regular Sunday run for about ten years, I started about nineteen ninety one when it was a lively vets ride that ran at about twenty mph with an average around sixteen mph, over the ten years I rode that run it developed into the fast ride it is now. I eventually stopped enjoying my Sunday mornings and dropped of it, now I can only stay with them over very short distances.

Was enjoying my morning ride to work, when a thoughtfull motorist left some diesel out on the road for me to test my bike handling skills.

The result being, ripped thermal leggings, ripped shorts, ripped hip, bruised and swollen hip, a lot of pain, a scratched rear mech and levers!!

ARSE!!

Just working up to riding distances again after the winter's enforced lay off due to that nasty chap Arthur Eyetus. Today was my first rid of the year around the wolds. A bit fresh but wow, it did feel good to suck in that gorgeous pig mu.......er fresh air.

I swear, even the bike was enjoying the exercise:smile:
