Just working up to riding distances again after the winter's enforced lay off due to that nasty chap Arthur Eyetus. Today was my first rid of the year around the wolds. A bit fresh but wow, it did feel good to suck in that gorgeous pig mu.......er fresh air.

I swear, even the bike was enjoying the exercise:smile:

Nice one Gerry - good for you!! :becool:

Still, no need for the buff, skullcap, glove liners, extra layers...fabulous.

Warmer, so the thick overshoes have been retired for the year, (I hope).

Wind had changed back to its customary direction making the outward leg a bit turgid.

The whole ride was nearly ruined by some A/H who tried to put me on the pavement on a LH bend in Biggin Hill. The lights were just too far away for me to catch him up - which was fortunate in retrospect.

Most tintops are patient when they can see that you are trying to avoid the potholes, but as ever, it's the small minority that show themselves up.

The lanes are still covered with grit.

I searched out part of the Calderdale Cycle Way today (as recommended by some kind person on here). Not very well sign-posted, strangely there were more visible signs on the return leg and it seems i had gone the wrong way! However, it was very enjoyable and said a cheery "good morning" to 2-3 cyclists and a handful of biddies out for a stroll in the sunshine - and most of them replied with a friendly greeting too!

Barnet,
Not a bad day here, just a couple of miles to the market, and then to the pub for a couple of pints on the way home.

I was itching to try out a trail ride yesterday so went and did a lenght of the Transpennine Trail from Dunford Bridge to Wortley and back. It's fast, flat and virtually featureless, but good for getting in some big ring stuff.

Dogs appeared to be an issue. I always slow and pass dogs carefully, exchanging courtesies with the owners if they take the trouble to rein the bloody things in. I was snapped at by a pair of border terriers, which would have benefitted from a touch of Northwave if I'd got my foot out in time.

I caught up with one old fella who told me he'd just been bitten and taken off his bike. He had a visible wound on his leg and was off to the Docs to get it seen to. WTF is wrong with people?

Today ... Normally during the week I can't go on the road because it's too late when i come back to my house but this Wednesday i ask to take my afternoon just to ride ...
It's was a long time... And it was really nice ;)

I've done 95 km with 2 friends and then I've continued alone for 1 hour. Finally 5 hours ;)
It was really great!

Out last week for a 30 miler and was making my way home and met two chaps(60-ish) on tourers complete with plus-fours and flat caps.It transpired that they had driven from Norfolk to Stranraer to Larne and parked their car at Larne. They then proceeded to ride around the North coast and down to Fermanagh where I met up with them still going strong. All this in the coldest weather we have had since the winter(ha-ha-ha) which didnt seem to bother them! Big respect to those guys and I hope they got home safely.

First "commute" back for 10 days since I came off on ice. Also smashed my commute PB (6km) by over a minute in the morning. It probably helped I was on the TT bike though!

82 miles at 18.2mph today, pretty good considering my lack of mileage this winter.
Ruined in the last mile by someone bibbing and shouting at me to get to the side of the road, when I was in the right hand lane about 50 metres from the next red light. Stopped in the middle of the road and called him every name under the sun before carrying on, not at my most forgiving with 80 miles in the legs
Ruined what was an otherwise decent ride as I didn't get a chance to ride off the anger:sad:

Sneaked out this morning for a cheeky 'getting one over on the man' ride for about 25 miles in the spring sunshine before it clouded over. It was fab! I hadn't been back in the house for 5 minutes when the phone rang. It was my auntie and she has pancreatic cancer. She rang to tell me that following her last hospital visit she had been told that the chemo wasn't doing anything more for her and that she had 6 months to live. Not so great! I'd been expecting this to happen but when it does it still sucks the big one.
