Headed out on my bike today, intending to do my usual 32 miler, but gave in after five miles and headed home again, the roads were so icy I was scared stiffxx(

Oh what a coward I am

So only ten miles for me today

Oh well here is to tomorrow

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Ice is not much fun..better to retreat and live to fight another day.

26 miles in the dark. Amazing what a good output front light does for your confidence. Twin cree XR-E homebrew lamp illuminates everything beautifully, and cars certainly know you're coming
Much better battery life now ive invested in a 15V Li-on battery and charger.
Moderately cold and windier than i thought.
I don't want to think about my cross country rides in the depths of winter along open and windswept countryside ;)...better start hardening up i think.

Did a delightful ride on Anglesey today with Plax. Not terribly long, as our proposed make-it-up-as-we-go-along route was rudely interrupted by some water...
We did however establish that Dime bar cake is seriously sickly if you have a large enough portion, and a Brommie will cope with light off-roading ;). A Brommie will also accommodate a coal scuttle on the rear rack, provided you don't mind some rattling and a general feeling of ridiculousness.

Woke up just in time for the sun to disappear behind the clouds, but headed out anyway. Hit the hills towards the Haldons and chugged uphill for about 30 mins.
Hooned down the other side of the hills, got a bit lost, Chuffy decided to head off up a road we've not been up before...for another 25 mins of continuous climbing ;)
Back home via the beach, where we shared a flask of coffee and pondered why there were so many boats anchored out at sea.

Dime bar cookies are also quite sickly!
My ride last week was almost rudely interrupted by water, about 100m of it, but I bravely sallied forth. It covered the tops of my overhoes ;)

My ride was a little damp under foot but & managed to take shelter for the 40min of torrential rain... for the benefit of my unprepared riding buddies  Anyway after the break we continued on only to hear complaints about being cold/wet. I got so irritated by my riding buddies I simply dropped them ;).

<rant>FFS people get some proper wet weather gear! You wimped out last weekend & took a 40min cafe stop because you didn't have appropriate clothes... I was warm & dry the entire ride including for the 25 miles or so after going through a temporary 4" deep ford</rant>

Four inches? That wouldn't even reach your soles...

No but it does create an awful lot of spray, I was covered in water due to the fact in my cleverness last night I managed to break my front mudguard on the Marin.

Let's put it another way, the rest of them didn't go through it & were complaining about being wet n' cold.

Managed to get a window in the weather and do an 18 mile MTB ride from Hebden Bridge (ColinJ's manor) up onto the moors. Only four of us turned up, two are pensioners! The rest missed a cracking ride, finishing off with a pint in the Stubbins Wharf, a homely canal-side pub. The wind blew, the hills looked stunning, we didn't get wet, I went over the bars three times and got a bit muddy. Actually I think we saw Colin in the town - was that you Colin on a yellow and black bike crossing the bridge at about 3:15? You glanced towards our car with two bikes on the rack and smiled.

Nice pics! Was the third one taken on Stairs Lane?

No, it wasn't me that you spotted back in town. I was in all day, slaving over a hot computer!

PS I've PMd you about the possibility of a ride later in the week.

The ride was mostly uneventful besides some idiot charging through a ford at 40mph. The car made it through but the engine well... I think someone's buying a new car!

About 1.5 hours worth of commuting today...no idea of the mileage.
Pillock..i decided to change my handlebars this afternoon for a pair & stem i salvaged off a Galaxy, much better than my old pair, much easier to get onto the drops.
Half way through...everyones gone home  Clocked off and completed the changeover. It looks and feels so much better. Also replace a brake cable and outer that i'd cut too short on the original build, causing a tightness when on 'full lock'.

All looks and rides much better than before. No incidents, light wind, went like a breeze.
