Just back after a lovely ride round "Fnarr Country", Dyke Neuk,...D

Yes, that sounds like Fnaar country all right, what with a dyke being a dyke and Neuk being Dutch for f*ck.

Flattish ride today. 30miles done today, pretty flat with only one hill and a few inclines. Headwind was abit of a bitch in some places, but i like this North-east wind, it blows me back home and up a hill.;)
Didnt see much interesting today.
I did see this car yesterday with 2 chavs standing near it leaning in talking. When i went past it was missing the side windows and had a huge break in the windscreen on the drivers side. Not sure what had happened, but it needed alot of new glass.

Oh lord..it's been hard
Had a virus earlier this week, hav'nt done much mileage lately....and it's beginning to show.
My quick 18 mile evening ride was done in just a few minutes longer than normal...but it fairly took it out of me.
Nearly 16 mph average..and still the bloomin wind (albeit gentle) in my face for 3 of the 4 directions i travelled in

Still.....nice ride in the country, hardly any traffic, and it's so nice to see the road gently rolling around bends...bordered by long grass and green hedges. Almost wished i'd had the camera with me.

Had a good one today - my new longer commute on another dry day . I still keep having to tell my legs to go slow and save my self for next day, next week etc etc but I really am enjoying it so far. I was nervous as to having bitten off more than I can chew, but so far so good.*

I got home and showered and then fitted my new front panniers to the the front rack I fitted last week in preparation for a camping trip this weekend. The rack went on fine but I had to drill and file it to take the pannier clips. A quick trip to Sainsburys and the return journey fully loaded - I'm happy!

Nowts dropped off yet and a bit of old innertube under the clips has made a good job of it.

*I've gone from a 5.2 mile round trip to 19.

for me todays ride was yesterday;)

up the Hautacam in the pyrenees, 13k of of an absolute fuc*er !!! savage, well almost in your face, avg gradients of 9% 7% 10% 8% 6% 7% 6% 10% then i lost count and just seeing how many k's to go,hardly anyone there, 1 other cyclist who i wheel sucked for the last 3 kilometres:biggrin: ,the only sounds were pesky bees, cow bells, the wind and yours truly breathing, the odd car ,the views were unforgettable,on reaching the summit of the Hautacam, the sheer elation !!!!!! ,my first full ascent of a mountain and a HC classification at that !! once at the top its time to gather your thoughts ,rest for a minute and then straight back down as there is nothing & I mean nothing, its a vast empty concrete car park and thats it !! was going to take a drink from the mountain spring ,but other cyclist decided to have a pis$ in it:evil:

1hour 36minutes to get up,15 minutes to get down:biggrin: and at the bottom a sign that said "GUINESS SERVED HERE:smile:"

I've not done much riding this month with one thing or another. I changed my 700x35s to 700x32s Maxxis Colombiere - seem to roll a lot better. Great ride, no wind, hardly any traffic about and I was feeling good. 16.4 kms into then circuit and I had that wobbly feeling in the back wheel - a visit from the p*nct*re monster! I don't think that the p*nct*re fairy is strong enough to drive a 2.5 cm wood screw through the tyre, put two holes in the tube and leave a mark on the rim tape!

Windy ride today. Wasnt going to bother going out, but decided to just go anyway. Was warm when i was out the wind, but abit colder when in the wind.
26miles done today. And its made me have the highest average speed in the cycle chat team:biggrin:
Got a sort of route planned out for the ride tomorrow aswell now.

There's a pattern developing here....
Going out this AM with SWMBO, to get a haircut (5 miles away). Grabs the car keys...
she says...shall we walk ?

Dont fancy it...how about the bikes ?

So... one haircut and a fish and chip dinner later, we've covered a steady meandering 15 miles, slightly windy in places but mostly on cycle tracks and back roads.

One highlight was getting run off the road by SWMBO
We came to a junction, she thought we were turning left and swung straight into me. We became a wobbly tangle of legs, handlebars and pedals, desperately trying to stay upright...i failed

Nothing inspiring in itself...but we find ourselves abandoning the car more and more often in favour of the bikes..when there was a time when you'd just go by car without thinking.

I went out after dinner.Just for a bumble off road just short of two hours.Just local Eccup near Emmerdale Farm film set.And some land by Harewood House. It was great cos no pressure to get somewhere if that makes sense.Loads of people out walking aswell.Room for us all.
