Epic ride today. Beautiful weather too.
Did the Duncton Sunday Sportive, which was supposed to be 82 miles but I missed a turn and it turned into 100 miles. I rode straight home afterwards and so clocked 126 miles for the day, at an average of 17.2mph! And I'd say I rode over 70% of it solo too so I'm pretty chuffed.
Leapfrogging my namesake in cyclogs doesn't hurt either
Only slight downer being that my knee was hurting towards the end.

Joe,
Are you doing the Great Notts Bike Ride this year? they've added a 100 mile sportive along with the usual 50 and 18 milers. I believe the route follows the normal path to Newark then heads off north toward Lincoln. I can't do it this year, it's my little brothers 40th on that day so I'll be drunk in York.:biggrin:

I forgot about that.
Is there a time that i have to enter by do you know?
Anyone else on here doing it? Never done a Sportive before.
I'll have a think about it, thinking i am going to give it a go, whats the normal average speed on a sportive?

Taking the biscuit
Took the trike out on a 10 mile urban bimble to visit a friend, perfect trike weather.
Last night I swapped the clipless pedals from the MTB and the trike went like a bomb, even the climb through Greenwich Park upto Blackheath seemed easier and I happily spun the 2nd lowest gear all the way up.

No great distance covered but the weather is glorious, traffic was respectful and patient and I was comfortable and relaxed through out the ride. Got up some good speed on the road(must get computer for trike)and sadly I was robbed of a full downhill flight because I chose to come back thru the park and the road which is closed to cars was full of peds, but then you can't have everything.

Damn, you've gone past me Joe!
I'll be back ahead of you by the end of the week:evil:
Most probably! I doubt I'll do more than the commute until the weekend:sad:
This week must have been my biggest ever (356 miles) Yay for the weather.
I was quite chuffed today when another cyclist who was chatting to the guy at the feed station said that watching me climb was a "sight to behold" (and I assume he meant it in a good way as I kept dropping him)

50 miles today went up to Malmsbury then Tetbury both nice little towns then made my was back home through the Cotswolds then got on the sustrans path near Laycock to get home had a quick paddle in the Avon as well.

Just a 12 mile potter today to get an ice-cream in Dawlish.
We're both using our HRMs to ride at optimum fat-burning tempo (anyone suggesting that we just give up on the ice-cream gets a biff up the headtube btw...) and as Baggy's optimum HRM leaves me riding at about 25 bpm below mine I have to spin my lowest gear and tow a Bob-Yak in order to burn any calories.

Oh and I've just bet £5 and my leg hair that I'll do 100 miles more than Mondobongo this month, so I may be a more frequent visitor to this thread!:blush:

Today I hired a clunky badly maintained Giant MTB and went cruising around Wolfe Island in Ontario, because if I get the job for which I am being interviewed on Tuesday, I want to live there! But who knows... anyway, it was a lovely hot sunny day, there were hawks flying overhead and songbirds, cows (and llamas!) in the fields, and it was all very buccolic. And only a 20 minute ferry ride from downtown Kingston...

I think by your earlier post that you should have no problem with the speeds, I did the 50 last year (with Mrs C - what a star) and the whole thing was more about the cake stops than the time for most people.

59 miles though the North Yorkshire Moors to the cafe at the National Parks Centre at Danby and back again. It was very foggy when we set off but gradually the sun burnt it off and as we reached the moors the sun was out. Made for quite a hot and humid ride though. Was pleased with how I went today as I am about 300 miles behind where I was at this point last year and with a couple of sportives coming up I was starting to get a little worried, but a record time today suggests I will be OK.
