15 miles after work, the usual mix of rush hour traffic into town, then along a very nice deserted cycle path toward Whittlesea, over the Nene, back to Stanground, back through town and home...with a stop to change the battery pack in my lights.
Very mild with a light breeze.
Only spoiler was a artic that hung back well for a while, then went for it B). Not really close, but a little too close for comfort as he swept past.
Amazing how many peeps are out there without ights in the rush hour . Most wear Hiviz...i can only assume they think thats enough

Shade under 80 miles this week...how does that compare with most of you guys ? My longest rides at this time of year are 35...usually more like 25, then a few miles a day commuting.
How the hell do some of you get the time to do 50, 60 80 mile rides in one go. I feel guilty dissapearing for 2 or 3 hours at a time

Dunno, haven't been on a ride longer than about 15 miles since November. Knocked off once and fell off twice that month and then having to devote and save my energy for work has kept me just ticking over ;).

Got some good plans for the year though .

To get back on topic: Todays ride was the end of my first five days commuting on fixed and I bloody love it!

So much so that I'm going in again tomorrow.

Went on my first club run of the year and then a quick 18 miles to visit my folks (70miles in total); the weather was great and although at times the wind seemed like a solid barrier the majority of the time it was fine. The weather forecast has changed for the better so hopefully I'll get out tomorrow too.;)

Set out to do a 40 mile loop to Bibury and back. Pumped tyres up in the morning and then went out to find the front one had gone flat - tube had burst (it was quite old). Quick replacement procedure then set off.

About 4 miles before Bibury I noticed that the front derailleur was clattering on the chain on middle ring. 'Funny', I thought and tightened up the cable on the adjuster. A couple of minutes later the problem returned. Tightened it again. Then, a couple of minutes later, the derailleur decided to change to the granny ring and stay there. Limped into Bibury with only low ratio. On pulling the cable the whole thing came out with a big frayed end. Removed front derailleur (after struggling for 30 mins with the removeable link on the chain) and stuffed it onto the middle ring. This got me home - about 20 miles - albeit a bit noisily. Now I have a new cable to buy, a front shifter to inspect and setting it all up before I can use the bike again. Just as well it's not my only bike!

I was going out this morning whatever the weather. The Wind from Blackpool out to Lytham was strong with no let up but things improved once I was out on the lanes.
Saw a few others making the most of the weather which was nice when the wind dropped off. Only 25 miles but am back in the saddle and mileage will be going up over coming weeks.

tbh honest i havent been out much i am finding it easier just to jump on the turbo and spin for a couple of hours, i find it relaxing, or do a sufferfest session, they are good.
its not due to the weather or not having the time i guess its less hassle than kitting up and cleaning the bike down after.

Saturday.

Met up with Soltydog and Andrew in Hull and rode out to Spurn Point. Man those roads were slippery, the least little rut or ridge had us slipping sideways and all sorts. Still, we made it OK and then rode up through Withernsea and did a roundabout loop back to Hull.
Had to cut it a little short seeing as I had to catch my train at 5.01. Made it with 5 mins. to go, so that was a well planned excellent bit of timing. ;)

Did a quick little 2 mile loop near home just to make it over 100.

I pass bibury on some of my longer routes, Il look out for someone with a puncture and clattering derailleur. ;)

Another 30 miles today, got caught out in the rain but fround a tree to shelter under and eat my load of food.

Club ride....
60 odd miles on the Moulton, good grief that wind was terrible and was in our faces nearly all the way round, as I was the ride leader it was probably my fault:biggrin:

Route was Malvern-Worcester [ first time the club ride has gone through the city in many years ] through the villages of Crowle- Himbleton and the hilly Lenches to the tea stop at the ferry in Evesham. Return Elmley Castle-Eckington-Strensham and Upton on Severn then back to Malvern.

We did see plenty of others out, the Worcester St Johns and a large group of Evesham Wheelers plus plenty of smaller groups of riders. Great to see so many people out on their bikes especially this time of year.

My main observation of the day was that there is one hill after the other going east out of Worcester.... especially on the Moulton:smile:

I get 'directed' to do a long ride , usually a 100km audax every weekend by my personal ayatollaress. She tells me it's an investment in my health - I get the dividends of being able to be free of directives, instructions, nags, advice, sulks, strops and guilt trips

Wait until your marriage/partnership matures. You'll get kicked out too

The weather turned out similar to yesterday mostly nice (the odd short shower and the winds were mostly side on), the roads weren't though. The roads were covered in a dirty slush and as it started to melt the roads turned into rivers. I done 50.5 slow miles (peaked at 32.5mph but only averaged 14.5mph) and the bike needs a good clean now.
