I came upon a group of swallows & a single house martin all hunting about a foot off the ground along a foot path this afternoon. So I stood in the middle and forced them to fly around me.

On my ride today, slightly west of the A1...
Several Red Kite. Often calling, a kind of peee'ooo sound. Mating season ?
Several Buzzard. One being mobbed from its roost in a tree by three angry crows /rooks.. Others mostly seen high, wings outstretched on thermals I shoukd think. Buzzard are kind of newish round here, 10 years ago, I dont think we ever used to see them.
One stoat or weasel, whichever is biggest, shot across the road in front of me.
One Yellowhammer, started from a hedge as I went past.
One Lapwing.

The verges are awash with white, yellow and purple flowers...quite a few pastel purple coloured butterflys, little ones.

Its all happening out there, the hedges seem alive with birdsong.
Must have been loads of Skylarks, wherever you were...you could hear that incessant trill up high...lovely birds.

Got off a little ride round the suburbs this morning, to find a big brown dog running round my back garden.

Then the doorbell went and a lady from the next street down said "you haven't seen a big brown dog, have you"?

Seems her fence is knackered, hence the dog getting into our garden.

Of course, the cur was all wet and covered in vegetation, as it made its way through my house...

I was out yesterday evening, wandering around admiring the way our new house is coming along, when I saw a small owl - a Sreech Owl, we are at the northern edge of their range here - land on a dead tree just in the next door's garden. I stood silently and still and watched it look around, and then heard a sort of quiet 'floof' sound and another owl had popped up on the top of the kid's playhouse right next to me. It looked right at me and I got to see and identify it very clearly. They were quite clearly a pair and resident somewhere on the edge of our property. They didn't really seem that bothered about me, and I watched them hunt around the garden until it got too dark to see them.
