I have just seen 4 Swifts whirling around outside a moment ago. I also saw a large black bird being mobbed by some smaller black birds. Now I am not sure that I have seen my first Raven or if it was a crow being mobbed by Jackdaws. It did let aout a loud croak noise. There are some Ravens a few miles to the South apparently.

Several parcels of poo left on the path overnight. Don't want to get too excited but I think the hedgehog's back!

It has been a busy time outside, the Peregrine showed up a couple of times. A Red Kite started soaring and glided over the town.

An interesting battle developed between a persistent Crow and a Buzzard. The Buzzard started soaring over the town and a couple of Crows started to mob it. One of the Crows gave up but the other continued climbing with the Buzzard. The Buzzard tried flicking over on to its back to unleash it's talons but the Crow still kept on, that was until they had gained enough height for the Buzzards greater wing span to have an effect. It didn't half have a go at that Crow which soon scarpered.

Walked up the track at the back of the farm earlier and saw eight Hares on a ploughed bit of field boxing then disappearing into the crops.
The first Swallows arrived back on the 6th of Apr and I think they're all back now,it's quite noisy around the stables with three nests up in the roof..

The Robins are still around after losing all four babies to the frost but their second attempt much more successful.

I think I saw one of these today. I couldn't be sure as it was difficult to see in the trees. It was doing a lot of chirping.
The smaller picture is for those who want to play spot the bird.
I really should have had my googles with me
Have you searched for them?:okay:

Housemartins and swallows are here, also saw just a couple of swifts yesterday evening (usually loads, so I presume numbers will increase). We have swift boxes on the house (put up last year, didn't get used) so hoping some passing Swifty McSwiftfaces notice them and set up shop.

Spotted the first cygnets of the year today, though I couldn't get close enough to get a proper snap. I must start taking a proper camera out with me instead of just the phone.

Yesterday 3 frogs decided to pop their heads above the water for a while. This was in the pond at the bottom of my garden. I also managed to catch sight of the first Damsel fly of this year, which means that the nymphs will soon be climbing up out of the water. I do have fun trying to photograph them as they disappear around the other side of the read as you try to get a better shot.

My first ones climbed out yesterday, I caught one in the act but didn't take a photo of it!

I do a survey of my local pond once a month. I've just been up there. A bit quiet on the water bird front - the female Mute Swan is on her nest with the male keeping an eye out & some male Mallards loafing about. But lots of singing from the smaller birds and I saw my first Blackcap of the year.

I have got a bird singing away at the bottom of the garden hidden in the trees that I cant identify. It has only recently started singing. The song consists of short sharp bursts, a bit like it has entered a sheep trial and the sheep are not listening. I'll try to find it later.
