Don't often cycle down in the river valleys near Stockport but went for some MTB fun on Saturday. Cycling along a bridleway about 400m from the River Goyt I was delighted to see a pair of Reed Buntings. The males are easy to recognise so luckily I saw that first. I probably would have struggled to identify the female based on the fleeting views I had, had I not seen the male just before
There are a couple of upland marshes near home that have Reed Buntings in the summer (the song is very easy to recognise and carries a long way) but don't think I have ever seen one in the winter around here
