A bit of a sad one.

yesterday in a customer’s garden I found a dead male greenfinch. It had flown into a garden shed window.

When I picked it up to have a look and then dispose of it I Was surprised to see how many ticks were on It.

It was a bit warmer on Friday and yesterday so the frogs showed themselves in the pond. Some swimming about, some hugging and a bit of croaking. No sign of them today after it turned cold again. It'll be a while before they spawn. It's always well into March.

On this Mornings early walk I saw a couple of Magpies - up real close - as I appeared to catch them by surprise ! A Fox also crossed the road pretty much right infront of me. Looked a little thin to me. I’m sure it’s the same one as I’ve seen a mile or so up the road a couple of Mornings when I’m my car on the way to work. And just before or after the Fox - a Heron leisurely flew overhead. Presumably then going out for breakfast….

Easy to forget how much Wildlife you do see in these parts; as i am quite rural. I do love being right on the edge of a town though. A Town that’s also on the seaside. The best of all Worlds.

Upland moors are largely devoid of life at this time of year. Most fauna with any sense head to lower levels, except the grouse which tough it out
On the MTB at about 1,400ft ASL and came across a flock of about 50 Fieldfare in amongst the grassy tussocks. No idea why they were there of all places, it was rather inhospitable but they must have been finding something to eat. You'd think they would fly a few miles down the valley where conditions are much more benign

Garden birds have been fed
First arrival is a blackbird and quite close to the house as well.
Had to de ice the bird bath this morning
Looks like something has been rootling in the fresh home produced compost that I scattered around the garden yesterday afternoon.
