My Dad always had company cars, so he never got to choose, although we (the kids) did get to pick the colour, so I remember a....

'Flame red' red Vauxhall Cavalier
then a
Blue Astra Estate which I remember telling my Dad would be the car I'd drive when I was a grown up. As I seem to rermember, he just laughed!

Then we had....

...... A white Citroen somethingorother which had a whole load of weird and wonderful hydraulic suspension settings on it so that the car could be driven at various different heights and angles. It only had one windscreen wiper in the middle, which we all thought was strange and great in equal measure and was the only white car we ever had as the colour was picked by my sister and I don't think she'd quite taken into consideration how dirty it would look!
It is still one of the cars I remember the most by far and I wish I knew what it was as I'd love to see one now!

Then we had....

Another blue Astra Estate, but the updated version, and this time a diesel (our first)

Ummm..... I genuinely can't remember after that, and it was only 10 or 15 years ago too, but they would have been estates of some type anyway

He's retired and now has a Ford Focus which he shares with Mum.

EDIT: Oh yes, after the second Astra estate, a red Vauxhall Vecra and then a black Toyota Corolla.

Can remember way back soon after arriving in England, my much older cousin had one of these:

He was an RAF fighter pilot (Cold War era, his dad died flying a Hurricane) and that's the sort of car they had to have, apparently. He took us for a ride in it and we sat on the back of the seat! Seat belts? You must be joking..

I liked the sound of it but im more intrigued by my stepmums Volkswagon Beetle.

Someone local to us had a Beetle and the noise scared me (admittedly I was about 4).
Also the guy who ran the local chippy had some sort of kit car, and the look of it scared the bejesus out of me for some reason!! I used to have to run past his drive so I couldn't see it and it couldn't 'see' me!!:laugh:

That said, I used to be scared by the sirens of fire engines up until I was about 4, not to mention bin lorries after someone told me that those were teeth on the back and that the binmen were always on the lookout for kids to feed it with!! Cruel, I know.

Austin Cambridge was the car we went round in as kids

It frightens me to think how much work went into tarting that back up. It looks in showroom condition. How do you get all that chromework gleaming like that? How do you get years' worth of grime out of the radiator grille?

The only one i really remember was the Lada Riva, it was a creamy beige colour, i remember on cold mornings he had to use the crank handle to start it, and once whilst we were at harlech castle we could't get up the hill to the car park in 1st so he turned it round and went in reverse (which is managed?!) the rest are just a blur tbh.
