I can just about remember my dad's first car - a Riley 1.5. Split windscreen and running boards. Ours was very second hand and not at all classic.

I remember a ford Anglia, and also an estate version (but could have been a mk1 Escort)

Change of circumstances saw a run of brand new cars
A Vauxhall Magnum 1800 - Metallic Green
Followed by 2 x MkII Ford Capris
And finally a Fiat Mirafiouri (mum worked for Fiat and got a deal)

Another change saw a raft of forgettable second hand models including IIRC, a Humber Sceptre, Vauxhall Viva Estate and a Volvo 240 tank in beige.

AlI that's ever spoken about my dad's Riley 1.5 is that it was forever breaking down. It had those indicators that would pop up (when they worked) between the doors.

he had a viva and then some sort of estate and he used to drop the back seat and all six of us would just climb in the back. In the days before health and safety lol

Simple, remember (if you can) your dad's cars when you were a kid?

Well post them here.

Austin Maxi. There really is nothing to like about it whatsoever.
Can't believe it got us to Southern Italy and back one year. Still, beats Ryan Air I guess!

I had one of those in the same colour though i went and had it resprayed bright orange! It was not only a car but a room for the night as well, as the flattened rear seats offered a comfy bed after a night out on the tiles!

My dad took his test in 1967 he failed and never took it again. So we relied on his brother to take us out for day trips. I can remember going to Morecambe a lot as he thought Blackpool was "rough". He was a miserable type who kept the windows up on hot days, and the stink of those toilet type air fresheners he had in the car and the boiling hot leather seats we had to sit on made me throw up one day in his precious car!xx(

My Dad always had company cars, so he never got to choose, although we (the kids) did get to pick the colour, so I remember a....

'Flame red' red Vauxhall Cavalier
then a
Blue Astra Estate which I remember telling my Dad would be the car I'd drive when I was a grown up. As I seem to rermember, he just laughed!

Then we had....

...... A white Citroen somethingorother which had a whole load of weird and wonderful hydraulic suspension settings on it so that the car could be driven at various different heights and angles. It only had one windscreen wiper in the middle, which we all thought was strange and great in equal measure and was the only white car we ever had as the colour was picked by my sister and I don't think she'd quite taken into consideration how dirty it would look!
It is still one of the cars I remember the most by far and I wish I knew what it was as I'd love to see one now!

Then we had....

Another blue Astra Estate, but the updated version, and this time a diesel (our first)

Ummm..... I genuinely can't remember after that, and it was only 10 or 15 years ago too, but they would have been estates of some type anyway

He's retired and now has a Ford Focus.

My dad's first car was one of these - a Hillman Minx

He won it in a competition to guess the attendance at a Chelmsford City football match. To get the winning number he took his Army number and knocked off the last 2 digits (I think). As he didn't have a license he sold it and bought one of these - Francis Barnett 250 (green not red though)

After a few years and trips round Scotland with me on the back, he got his car license and sold the bike and bought - a Hillman Minx
