Winter tyres. For my car though.

i'd love to have the option of snow tyres, for reasons said above (on/off, cold fingers etc etc) but they just don't make 'em for the 'sporty' micra alloys or steel ones, for some strange reason nissan made the wheels weird sizes.

if i did have the option it'd be snow tyres for definite.

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find a set to fit. Have you looked in your handbook for Winter tyre sizes for your vehicle - they are almost always quoted?

We run 195/50 15s on crappy old alloys over Winter and 205/45 16s in Summer - both manufacturer approved sizes.

Alternatively, take a look at a tyre size calculator like this one:
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

and calc. your own tyre size. It is recommended to keep any disparity in tyre circ. to less than 3%.

As a further option, have a word with someone like Tyremen in Hull IIRC who are really helpful guys and will give you best advice without any pushy sales pitch - at least in my experience.

I considered winter tyres, but I never really struggle apart from when its really been bad, and that has only been a couple of days over the last two years, so I can't justify the cost of a seperate set of tyres. I have however bought a pair of 'AutoSocks', for emergencies this winter.

I see that mytyres will do a complete set of steel wheels & tyres, fitted and balanced. Not much more than buying the tyres on their own, either.

Just had the front tyres changed on my Volvo () - I asked Taz the tyre man about winter tyres and he said they make a huge difference in snowy weather. I couldn't justify the expense though, cheaper to crash and write the car off.

I do hope its not somebody you crash into.

Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that - maybe it's not such a good idea then.

Got Continentals in the end from Kwik-Fit. Somehow they feel very 'tall' compared to the worn out summer tyres I took off. Cant wait to do some burn ups - bring on winter!

I never thought to check the car handbook for possible winter tyre sizes - I'd have been happy to go narrower for greater ground pressure and might have saved a few bob there.
