Aye aye. I'll crack the jokes

Was that a joke?

Cumbernauld is bad. Airdrie, near where I live, is also horrid, as is Coatbridge just down the road. In fact, just about all of the post-industrial towns in west central Scotland are grim.

Although Cumbernauld is a new town... hang on. You'll struggle to find 'any' nice towns in central Scotland.

Oh that's a good shout!

God, years ago we were on holiday in Turkey, there was this really annoying child from Doncaster, he spent all day every day running around the hotel pool shouting " I'm from Donny me, I'm from Donny, me". I could have cheerfully killed him.

Ambleside.

It reflects so much that is bad about contemporary life and tries to hide it under a veneer of being 'in the Lake District'. It's a traffic dominated, scruffy place with no heart, that has been given over to shopping. The housing market is distorted by second homes and the only thing that gave it any vitality (students from the college) will end when they move to another University of Cumbria campus at Penrith, so the attractive buildings in the town can be sold.

Shopping, greed, traffic, second homes, over hyped attractions. I feel sorry for the tourists who wander around trying to find what they are there 'for'.

Oh yes, and you can't get any tea or food after about 4.15 because all the cafes are closing. Never mind that hundreds are retuning from their day's activities about then.

Brave shout but a good one. It is indeed a shameful place that suffers from its position in such a sumptuous setting. It's a pity that hundreds and thousands of people go there for the solitude. It's also shocking how many people go there and never set foot on grass. It's a testament to man's overwhelming greed and desire to put money before everything else.

The area to the left of Skipton, what a bloody contrast to the North, NW and NE of it:eek:

One dead or dying hole after another, boarded up towns with zombified residents, everything you look at screams "SKINT", god, it's awful, Glusburn, Cowling, Colne, Nelson, Burnley, by the time you reach Accrington you wish you were dead.

By Colne I assume you mean a different one to the halcyon rural idyll in which I reside? This silver jewell beneath God's azure majesty; this model of perfection we've nurtured and allowed to take its first faltering steps into an unworthy world; this glistening crown of diamonds on the face of Lancashire.
