Luton maybe? I'll probably think of somewhere else in a minute.

I've been to some rough places in my time but the place I dispise more than any has to be....Stockport:ohmy:

I actually moved to Stockport (Edgley) because it was so much nicer than where I was living (Moss Side). Moss Side has the only pub whose clientel went completely silent when we walked through the door. No idea what the beer was like - we drank it too quick to notice.

Mozambique Marlborough just after the civil war, heartbreaking poverty, or the two hour bus ride from the airport to the resort in Cuba Kensington, US global control freak sanctions having acheived the same result as seen in Moz.

Your geography teacher must have been $hite mate. Don't think that's in Britain.

An area to the east of Barnsley. I thought it was Hollywood's idea of the aftermath of a nuclear attack.

What like Monk Bretton/Cudworth/Carlton/Upper Wombwell sort of area?

Orpington. They don't bury their dead there, they stand them up in bus shelters with bingo tickets in their hands. It's the place where, if Britain was constipated, that's where they'd stick the enema. And the soul-less, personality-bypass no marks that live there (and envy those in the bus shelters) must have been the template for the zombies in the village of the Damned. Crucifyingly dull.

Never been, dont know whether its the same now, but my dad always had a story on Stranraer (sp)
He was posted there in the 1950s.
They arrived to see a street that looked like a military barracks....boarded up windows, rubble strewn all over. He honestly thought it was a military training ground for street to street fighting :ohmy:...till he went round a corner and saw kids playing in the road.
He couldnt believe people could live in such abject poverty and poor housing

Wombwell rings a bell. It was an area of black opencast with shell like craters holding water and little groups of houses.
Ah you mean between Grimesthorpe and Cudworth I think! It's nearby. It all sort of merges into one big area really although there was a bit of other opencast in the areas. Wombwell is one of the bigger settlements. I have to cycle through that way when I head north.
