By Colne I assume you mean a different one to the halcyon rural idyll in which I reside? This silver jewell beneath God's azure majesty; this model of perfection we've nurtured and allowed to take its first faltering steps into an unworthy world; this glistening crown of diamonds on the face of Lancashire.

Yep, that's the one:biggrin:

Take heart though, it's at the good end of that stretch and is akin to Bali compared to Accringtgon.

Canvey Island bred. Now there's another place for the list.
I remember an advert for the Canvey tourist board (or equivalent) about 25 years ago that said "Come to Captivating Canvey." Right!

I grew up in Benfleet but escaped to Kent until recently. I don't think Billericay's that bad but I'm not a big fan of the bit of Benfleet 'down the hill'...

Kilmarnock - I return there to remind myself how lucky I do not have to live there any more, dire, humourless and aggressive.

Nelson - South Wales - Reminded me of WW2 photos of the Warsaw ghetto it even had barricades.

Glenrothes – East Kilbride, Irvine and Runcorn all rolled into one with a large dollop of Milton Keynes thrown in for colour.

Like everywhere, it's got its good bits and its bad bits. We moved here to get our kids into a extremely good school and found the house prices to be really, really cheap so you get a huge amount for your money. We've stayed though because it is so safe. We've never known or heard of a burglary or robbery and we've never had any damage or heard or seen any bad behaviour from anyone. It's also glorious countryside and only a few miles from the Pennine Way. We're not from here but we certainly like it now.

I'll have you know there are some very nice places in London (obviously all with Postcodes beginning SW ;))

I've worked in some really grim spots all over the country, but in England, Boston in Linconshire takes some beating..... and if you go there after dark on a Friday night so will you.

The place is inhabited by roaming packs of drunken, inbred, web-footed chav scum looking for a fight.

In Scotland, Stranraer is similar.

Orpington. They don't bury their dead there, they stand them up in bus shelters with bingo tickets in their hands. It's the place where, if Britain was constipated, that's where they'd stick the enema. And the soul-less, personality-bypass no marks that live there (and envy those in the bus shelters) must have been the template for the zombies in the village of the Damned. Crucifyingly dull.

I agree 100% and I live there

I have cycled though many of the laces listed, but without problems.

There is only one place that I have actually felt "uncomfortable" enough not to stop despite it being lunchtime..... I have no idea why it just felt unsafe and unpleasant and I wanted to leave as fast as I can.

Annan!

My vote is for the shining future olympic supervenue that is Stratford, London. Some of that is because my father-in-law lives there, the rest is because its a traffic-constipated ugly f&*k-you urban sh1thole.

Nothing personal Big C, but I've got my issues with Gosport as well.

There's some nice folk, but I really, really, really don't like London. Blech. Too noisy, too crowded, too dirty. If I go in by train, as soon as I get out of the station my chest seizes up with all the crud in the air, my throat starts tightening. Sneeze then look into the hanky to see all the crap you've just sneezed out after breathing it in.. Blech.. Sorry.
