In Lousiana there are these big rodents, sort of like coypu but smaller, called nutria. They are not native and are a serious pest and a threat to the wetlands. They are essentially big rats. Now some bright spark had the idea that a way of getting rid of them might be to eat them. Now, Cajuns are famous for being omnivorous so it was worth a shot. My sister lives in New Orleans which is why, about 30 years ago I ended up trying nutria gumbo. It was gumbo, but the meat was distinctly un-succulent and ratty. Rat Gumbo. You can see why the attempt to turn the nutria problem into a culinary solution failed.

It wasn't at all disgusting, as it was gumbo. But it would have been far better without the nutria in it.

I think the've also tried promoting the nutria fur industry, and have Nutria Rodeos and similar events where basically people go out in boats and shoot them and there are prizes for most killed, biggest one killed, dead nutria throwing contests and the like. The state will also pay a bounty for every nutria tail you hand in. Obviously they don't pay enough because the problem doesn't seem to be going away.

I've seen a large population of them in France when on hols (lakeside accommodation). I thought coypu and nutrea were names for the same thing?

My kids call them 'notters'

Brewdog Pina Colada IPA.

My wife's on a health kick, so all of her booze was offered to me. (Either that or she's trying to poison me).
It's truly the worst "beer" I have ever tasted; an overwhelming flavour of desiccated coconut with a background of hops. One sip, and it went down the drain.

I think it must still be liver. It was absolutely rank when my mum cooked it (sorry, mum!) and absolutely ranked when school cooked it. It must be 50 odd years since I last had it and I never will again. Not voluntarily, anyhow!

What we called buckies ie big whelks about the size of your fist which tended to infest my creels in most of the bay as they went in for the bait which was for langoustine. One character fished for them specifically for a while as they seemed to be popular in parts of England.
Boiled a few up out of curiosity. Bit like trying to eat welly boots and in any case they loved dead bodies of any kind which was a bit off putting.

This stuff is vile!!xx( How much white processed sugar can you stove into this stuff??!! It's just full of dodgy sugar!!!

It is actually very good when you need a bit of an energy boost (which is what it is intended for, not just to be eaten as a sweet).

But certainly not something you can eat a lot of at once.
