I always use dried shitake mushrooms, you soak em for a while then chop them and add to Chinese dishes. If you opened a tin of 'button mushrooms' they do again seem 'slimey' but chuck em in a sieve/colander and rinse under a cold tap and they're fine.
I've yet to have a mushroom out of a tin that I'd consider "fine".

Fresh or dried is no problem. Tinned is ... no longer food.

The association with @Chris S's genitals hasn't helped.

Andouillette - I'm not saying.

Had a lucky escape with Andouillette in Clermont-Ferrand. Ordered some from a street stall, but they ran out before I got mine.

I've had andouiette twice. The first time in a restaurant in Vire (famous for them, apparently) and it was a bit weird but generally good. Emboldened I tried it again a few years later. Pigpoop-flavoured elastic bands.

I love both black pudding and haggis - preferably in thick slices fried in dripping until crispy around the edges, and then shoved into a toasted and well-buttered soda farl. :hungry:

Also quite like tripe. The best one to buy are the jars of "Flaki" from the Polish aisle in the supermarket. Perfect served hot in a bowl with plenty of rye bread & butter to dunk into the gravy / stock.

I tried tripe once, and bulls testicles, in a tomatoe sauce/stew. The tripe was ok but the bulls bits really did taste like what they were.

It does sound like lots of foods (especially offal) suffer from what I call the Brussells Sprouts Effect. i.e. if you don't cook something very well (or if you over boil them in the case of sprouts) they can smell and taste awful. That can have a lasting effect on trying new and/or similar foods. I had the same with Liver; mum used to grill the heck out of it and it tasted bitter and resembled a tough leather shoe. But I've since had it in a liver and bacon casserole and it was delicious

Offal has been in retreat for a while. My parents both remembered eating "lights" (lungs). My dad ate tripe occasionally but fairly unenthusiastically. I've had tripe once and respond to both with "yuk". Pigs feet were a favourite of my dad's. I don't mind them but find them too fiddly. But I love liver and kidneys - and heart (when it's available). So I've moved down the offal ladder from my parents, and as liver and kidney (and heart) become less easily available the general trend is away from offal and tastes will change.

Really? I had some really lovely tasting Haggis last time I was in Edinburgh.

Perhaps you didn't cook it well?

Do you feel the same about Black pudding? The taste & texture aren't that different, if you grill or bake the haggis.

Had it at a posh hotel in Pitlochry some years ago and it was awful.

Didn’t like the taste or the texture.

Tripe, when you have to drown it in salt & vinegar to remove the taste (very little) of the tripe
There used to be a shop in Wakefield that sold it, on the outside of the old Market Hall, along Brook Street
The older generation would queue up outside
Likewise,  Bag is another one I wouldn't want to try again (Cows Udder)

I do like, Haslet & Brawn

Brawn  one of THE most disgusting things ever
