Swapped over tyres, binned the knackered slicks
and fitted some Vittoria Corsa 25c’s
I also unwrapped the bar tape (you can see the hollowed out channel for the gear cable under the tape in the photo above) , I put some outer gear cable in the unused cable channel and re wrapped the bars, now looks and feels much better.

I found those life like me tyres to be very slow compared to even zaffiros, tests by cycling weekly confirmed my suspicions as they suck nearly 20 watts of power

Filed down the fins (?) of a second hand FH-7800 freehub body to make it compatible with a (wide footed) singlespeed cog.

After getting home a few days ago to find commuter had been ridden (confession received) and crashed or otherwise damaged in the garage (strenuously denied)...
... and then found myself climbing a 1:5 without bottom gear because the gear hanger was bent...

...All fettled and working now, thanks to LBS for tip of using hairspray to lubricate new hood.

Got the seat post out of a 501 tube Raleigh, with time, a touch of Plusgas, some heat and a vice.
