+1 on this. Also, thighs are pretty good value too, and not filled with water to bulk them up. Thighs are fabby for casseroles and curries, and boned out, make cracking schnitzel.

Cheap chicken breasts (and the same applies to cheap wet-cured bacon) are a false economy anyways, as you get so much shrinkage during cooking due to the added water. Going on the cooked weight, it's actually much of a muchness with the better quality / higher welfare.

Yes I should really remember to get thighs more often as most of our chicken use is curries and stir fr.

Nice olive oil is one that i miss, the rubbish stuff is now the same price as a great bottle 3 or 4 years ago. Weird thing is, when you go to Spain and Italy it's still great no matter where you go?

Model trains.

'Tis silly money now and I feel embarrassed when I see unwitting parents just wanting to get a train set for their kid, or similar.

You're not wrong there, I was looking at the new Hornby TT120 stuff the other day and it's over £200 for a starter set with just a basic oval.

I remember getting my lad a Thomas and Percy OO set and a few track packs to make a double loop with sidings, all laid out on a 5x3 table made out of offcuts from work. Some Metcalfe cardboard kits, a second hand Guagemaster dual controller, and a few scenery bits, all for around £150.

Mind you it was about twenty years ago. 😄

Fec me, where were they going ? Top restaurant in Manchester ?

i think the issue is the club founder and his mrs both have very good jobs and kids have flown the coop so they are well off by my standards .I think the same goes for a lot of the other club members too, yesterday took the kids out for the day which finished with a trip to the big M for tea so i had a bowl of cereal when i got home .

But that's stupid money, especially for a club dinner. Better off with some good pub grub or Italian/curry etc. You'd spend that on a date night/special occasion. That £60 is without booze I guess.

I do most of my food shopping in the local Tesco. They don't do their own sago/tapioca ( Never thought, but it's the same thing apparently 🤔 ;)) and semolina tinned puddings. They only sell the Ambrosia one which is now £1.85. Yes, I can easily afford it, but is it worth it? Er, no it definitely isn't!!

Bleurgh to both of those…frogspawn or wallpaper paste! Not surprised the main supermarkets don’t have own brand of foods that went out of fashion 50 odd years ago!
You could make your own.

But why would you? Rice pudding, on the other hand...
