Unusually, Morrison's currently have some bargains, e.g. Tilda basmati (one of the best!) 5Kg for £12

They also have good deals on Shahzada, 10 Kg for £12.50, among others.

A few years ago I bought a load of kilo bags of basmati on clearance in Tesco at 69p each. I cleaned them out at the time, but I'm coming to the end of that, so recently bought a 10kg sack for £12. Can't remember the brands off the top of my head.

That makes the rice and water overflow the container, unless you stand watching it, starting and stopping the microwave. You see, this is why I much prefer no water required packet rice! Not only that, but you can take packet rice out with you and eat it as a snack.

I cook my rice in a saucepan
(although I do use the packet stuff, but would consider 50p cheap, how much is it from the likes of Aldi/Lidl/Asda?)
Here you go, stock up at Aldi

Or Asda

Or Lidl if you prefer your rice yellow

Very tempting at that price, but I haven't much room in my pokey kitchen for another cooking/kitchen gadget. I bought a blender the other week and it's still in its box. If I bought that rice cooker I'd end up making rice dominated recipes, by chucking different stuff in. Having said that, that's an idea to consider. Rice with chicken, rice peas and beef, rice and er whatever.

I've only got a galley kitchen in my teeny, tiny little cottage, so have to think carefully what gadgets I do buy. My rice cooker is one of the things I couldn't be without - it's right up there with the kettle, toaster, crock pot and poppity ping.

Got one just before Christmas. The inner lid stops the water overflowing the vents in the outer lid, very clever.

Kitchen towels. I was in Asda and the cheapest 4 pack I could find was £5.25. a while ago they were more like £3.85.

I might also have to cut down on meat. Lidl prices are ok but I don't like their chicken, it can often be hard and crunchy. 5 quid plus for 3 breasts is a bit steep now.
