Kitchen towels. I was in Asda and the cheapest 4 pack I could find was £5.25. a while ago they were more like £3.85.

I might also have to cut down on meat. Lidl prices are ok but I don't like their chicken, it can often be hard and crunchy. 5 quid plus for 3 breasts is a bit steep now.

Worst chicken we ever had was organic from Sainsbury's - a Dentist's delight? It was tougher than a bad steak. We tried it twice, the second lot was the same so we gave it up - couldn't afford it now.

I always thought that was a Welsh thing, but it seems maybe not.
I think it is, but I'm always happy to increase my multilinguality.

yes it can vary wildly. I always thought it was bad luck that I had bad chicken whenever I was at my partner's house..then I realise she always shops in Lidl

If you need to eat meat, buy a whole chicken to roast, far better value than breasts (and better taste too)

Looking at numbers attending track racing leagues in Derby and Manchester it appears that racing's priced itself out of people's budgets, particularly Manchester.

The fee for league registration, entry fees, possible repairs and risk of injury seems to be putting people off entering.

Manchester velodrome has been closed and isn't fully re-opened yet (no taster sessions or accreditation) so there's no new riders but even the long-termers are staying away.

I was put off Aldi chicken when we got a packet that was distinctly off. Hard to tell through the wrapping but the meat had a distinctly greenish tint and smelled sulphurous. xx(
I also got annoyed at the chicken from other supermarkets as it was full of water. Try to stir fry it and ends up more boiling than browning

Local farm shop now. Really fresh and tasty and not much more expensive. Even if it was a lot more I’d still buy it and just use less.

Motorbiking.
I've been a lifelong biker until last year when I sold my Honda VFR 800. My helmet was done, as were my waterproofs, boots, gloves etc., so I binned them all.
Recently I was giving some thought to replacing my biking gear and buying a second hand bike.
Admittedly I was looking at slightly better quality stuff. My head is an odd shape so I find that only Shoei and Arai brand helmets fit comfortably. Prices start about £400. Breathable textile jacket, £250+, trousers £150+. Boots £150. Gloves £80.
Bike insurance £180 (based on 7 year old BMW F800 GT). VED £100..
Total about £1300, and still to buy the bike!
A decent condition 7 year old BMW F800 GT, around the £5000 mark. Which isn't too bad I suppose, compared to car prices. But what I have noticed is that most of the bikes I have been watching on ebay, Auto Trader, and Gumtree for about 2 months now have not sold.
Not many youngsters are taking up motorbiking due to the hoops that must be jumped through to get a licence, and the previous mentioned expenses involved. Older guys like myself are maybe not as keen as we once were. So is the biking bubble about to burst?

Edit to add... I have talked myself out of it, for various reasons. Cost being a major factor. State of the roads another.

+1 on this. Also, thighs are pretty good value too, and not filled with water to bulk them up. Thighs are fabby for casseroles and curries, and boned out, make cracking schnitzel.

Cheap chicken breasts (and the same applies to cheap wet-cured bacon) are a false economy anyways, as you get so much shrinkage during cooking due to the added water. Going on the cooked weight, it's actually much of a muchness with the better quality / higher welfare.

I've only got a galley kitchen in my teeny, tiny little cottage, so have to think carefully what gadgets I do buy. My rice cooker is one of the things I couldn't be without - it's right up there with the kettle, toaster, crock pot and poppity ping.

Popty microdon, cariad, dim "ping". Mae'n nhw dysgu ar ysgol heddiw.

I bought some chicken legs from Aldi about 2 years ago. The 'country of origin' was Poland. I opened them with a good few days to go till the best before date and was hit by a rotting flesh stench!xx( I carefully lifted one out the plastic packet with a fork and saw it was green underneath!!
