More wheels than sense
Likewise, I have holidays to use (use them or lose them) before the end of March, so booked a week off in February and another 2 weeks off in March. Then started to look for the bargains, because no-one else goes on holiday in February, do they? Wrong, apparently. The cheapest holiday to somewhere warm I could find came to £700 . That was return flights Glasgow to Lanzarote, and 7 nights in the cheapest hotel available with Jet2. Needless to say I won't be going. Five years ago I went to Orlando for 2 weeks in February, return flights with BA (Glasgow to London to Orlando, and return) taking my bike with me, for £750. I priced that for this February and it came to £1150 for ONE week. Won't be going there either. And just like yourself, using bookingdotcom I have found that the prices of hotels in the UK have just got stupid since covid. Roughly double what they were pre covid.
I sometimes wonder what is going on in the UK.. With the huge increases in energy bills, food bills, and every other bill, you would think that the demand for holidays and weekend breaks might be less, and therefore cheaper? Certainly not the case. There's still no shortage of cash for non essentials.

High inflation is doing that , if all you inputs go up you either charge more and risk going out of business because of lack of custom or not increase and go out of business anyway.

Back to the 70's !

Much cheaper to buy a bag and cook it

Yes I know, but the steam off it when boiled in the microwave makes it too much hassle.
