Yesterday's double bill was a pair of films that I've not seen for about thirty years.

First up was Michael Caine in The Ipcress File, every bit as good as I remember it.

Then, because my lad's never seen any of them, we had the first film in the American Ninja series, although I don't think it would be a problem not watching them in order. 😂

Blokes in pyjamas back flipping off tall buildings and disappearing in a ball of smoke, only to reappear a second later about thirty feet away, comedy violence galore, what hilarious entertainment.

I made a mistake last night and watched a film called The Last Video Store (a kind of rom com set in a video store). Which I ended up quite enjoying, despite it not being The Last Video Store I was expecting (an homage to B movies).

Same name, came out in the same year, but my video player thing got them jumbled up.

Watced another Director re-cut of a Godfather film last night, Godfather II this time. I don't know why they're bringing in these different versions. It was disjointed and didn't tell the story any better. Lots of scenes jumping around and no feel of continuity. The original was a masterpiece of seamlessly running two stories together from different time periods.

Incidentally, I was struck by the scene in Havana when Michael witnesses a rebel blow himself up, killing some soldiers in the process. He later observes that the army are paid to fight, the rebels are prepared to die for what they believe in. He rightly predicts that the rebels will therefore win. Then I wake up this morning to the news of Palestinian suicide bombers attacking Israel.

Nowhere on Netflix. Tour de force from Anna Castillo.

Yeah we watched that the other night, very pleasantly surprised. Great film, glad it wasn't American else they wouldn't have had a clue what to do, and an ex-forces estranged dad would have inevitably turned up, saved the day and got back with the mum

Expendables 4 - 7/10

You know what you're getting with these. Big, stupid, brainless wise-cracking fun which stretches but never breaks credulity. Well, sometimes, but still, it's more like "Mmm, yeah, that's unlikely, but could probably happen."

Gran Turismo - 7/10

Video games meet reality in what's actually a pretty involving story, based loosely on facts. It's not as effective as Senna or Rush, but still interesting and worth a watch even if you're not into the game or racing cars.

That's .... pretty poor planning at the studios

I don't think you'd have picked the wrong one with the boxes in your hand:

The Expendables 4

Comedy violence, a rather improbable plot, plenty of cheese, and very entertaining, that just about sums them both up. 😂
