What film did you watch last night?

You mention ‘Smokey & The Bandit’, the first is still one my top-10 favourite films, & l saw it at the cinema when it was released
I already knew about Jerry Reed, as a singer/songwriter/fantastic guitarist

Unfortunately, given the insanely huge success of the first film, & quite good takings from ‘Smokey 2’, some idiot decided to write/film/release ‘Smokey 3’, which was actually on TV last night
There was the only one film released in 1977, that has more money (all forms of viewing included), than 'Smokey 1' & that was 'Star Wars'
I'll freely admit, I've never seen any of the 'Star Wars' films, barring the odd clip

I re-watched all of the Transformers films last week. The first 2 were escellent fun. The 3rd was a bit crap, the 4th was ok. Came to watch the newest one (2023) and it was rubbish. All the money they spent on the CGI etc was wasted with the naff plot and awful characters

I last watched this about thirty years ago and couldn't remember anything about it so thought I'd give it another go.

I'm glad I did as Michael Caine is always good value when he's playing the Harry Palmer type intelligence agent.

Black Mirror : Bandersnatch

It's an interactive so you'll need to to watch it on Netflix. Think of it like a 'Choose your own adventure' book of old, in fact that forms a big part of the plot. Its quite a self aware film, and if you're into early 1980s British gaming culture (think ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad etc) you'll love it. As always it's Black Mirror so whilst it doesn't try to trick or twist you as such, its not always as you think.

There are 5 'endings' that will roll the credits, though there are also many dead ends meaning you can choose to end there but you have not reached actual ending. There's also several secret scenes and hard to reach scenes that can draw you back for more. The interactive parts are great though I can see perhaps someone getting frustrated if they don't get an ending and instead reach a dead end.

I found a good way to play was to initially choose what I thought I would do, but later I chose what I thought the main character (whose decisions you are making) would do. Don't try to second guess it though that is fun too so you get to things you hadn't thought of.

I liked it.

Not a fan of low budget found footage horror generally, but this was different as the camera work was actually competent and not just someone running through a forest panting.

I was pleasantly surprised the direction I thought it might take proved to be wrong, and actually ended up being a pretty novel take on the infection genre.

The Devils (1971)

The story of an immoral priest in seventeenth century France, for those who aren't aware it's a Ken Russell film, and every bit as loopy as you'd expect.

For the first two thirds of the film it's a proper WTF is this? Then once the trial begins it all makes sense.

Apparently there's a censored version, and an uncensored version, as I watched it on a slightly dodgy firestick I probably saw the uncensored one.

Not a film, but a series on Amazon Prime called Three Pines. Detective series set in French Quebec. I've been enjoying it. Another couple of episodes tonight hopefully as the telly on a Saturday evening is dire.

Watched it with my 18 year old daughter who's never seen it...much to the annoyance of my partner we howled at it.😁
Oh, that has just given me a flashback to howling at it with my then best mate. Unfortunately, he died 8 years ago, aged only 59. If it is on Prime or Netflix I will watch it again tonight in his memory!

If not, I'll give this one a go...
