Terrifier - 7/10

Little more than a series of brutal kills, held together by a pretty much non existent plot. However, the protagonist, Art, is weirdly compelling and his absolute silence and general weirdness is brilliantly creepy. Sadly the sequel isn't getting a theatrical release, but there's a box set of both hitting the shelves on October 24, with the sequel promising a plot and even more horrifying scenes. Count me in!

Beasts Clawing at Straws...South Korean black comedy, crime drama.Im rarely dissapointed by Korean films and this was say 7/10.
There's a good list of Korean films on more 4/catch up at the moment. The Sympathy trilogy,Parasite, and one of all time faves Memories of Murder.
Even though I've got it on dvd and watched it too many times. Its tempting for a Friday night as we're staying in ☹️

Hallowe'en Ends - 6.5/10

Bit of a mess really, a melting pot of ideas that never quite hung together beyond it being part of the Halloween franchise.

Although it's been confirmed that it's the end of this particular iteration of The Shape, the rights have gone back to one of the producers, Malek Akkad, so there are bound to be more

The Collector - 3/10 & The Collection - 5/10

First, The Collector. Nothing happens for about 40 minutes, then there are some fairly rudimentary traps which smash people to bits in a fancy house. That's it. There's no rationale, no tension, no nothing. The grisly bits are well done, but nothing new. Apparently this was pitched as a prequel to the Saw films, which is frankly an insult to one of the more inventive horror franchises of recent years.

Onto the sequel, which is better, but not by much. Again, it's a slow start, although plenty of splatter for the gore-hounds, despite set-up holes you could drive a bus through. Once it settles down a bit and focusses on actually trying to tell a story, it's not all that bad, but the damage has been done by that point.

Dishonourable shout out for whoever did the opening credits for The Collector. Clearly moist for Se7en, they've gone for a tribute to it and failed, miserably. Oh and also a shout out to whoever did the score/soundtrack for both, the music rarely bore any resemblance to what was happening on screen which is a pretty impressive achievement.

The Courier

Based on the true story of a British buisnessman who's recruited by MI6 around the time of the Cuban missile crisis.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the lead who acts as a courier, collecting documents from a Soviet scientist, before ending up in jail for a few years before being released when he's swapped for a spy being held in a British prison.

Well worth a watch if you like that kind of thing, 7/10.

I'm 4 episodes into The Singing Detective now. Excellent.
Inspired by reading a Dennis Potter novel on holiday.
It is 'What film did you watch last night', NOT 'What TV series have you been watching for the past 15 weeks'!

The Swordsman a Korean historical martial arts movie involving plucky little Josean kingdom, big nasty neighbours the Qings. Confusingly there are 3 swordsmen. Lots of backstabbing and front stabbing, cowardly aristicrats, devious advisers, bullying henchmen. This calls for a blind swordsman....
