I'm not a sports fan and certainly not a cricket fan... but Fire in Babylon is well worth a watch.

For me that's the mark of a successful film/documentary. If it can appeal to someone who has no interest in the subject, it's very well made. I've recommended it to a few folk, including a staunch cricket hater, and they've had nothing but positive comments.

Watched The Caine Mutiny- The Court Martial. Having seen the classic Humphrey Bogart version I was looking forward to this modern remake. It turned out to be a stilted court bound mess. No real tension, and the bloke playing Captain Queeg just wasn't in the same league as Bogie!!!

Continued to watch Season 2 of Star Trek: Enterprise, featuring my favourite Vulcan: the Science Officer / Sub-Commander T'Pol . Last night's episode featured an old (or is that new?) enemy of humans (and everyone else): the Borg! They're scary.

300: Rise of an Empire

utter f***ing garbage.

If you like swords and lots of blood in your movies, you'll be bored sh!tless of swords and blood within the 1st ten minutes. If you like rousing speeches about freedom and fighting which sound like they've been written by an 18 year old, followed by lots of cheering, you'll be bored sh!tless of rousing speeches and lots of cheering within half an hour. If you like those long dull tedious scenes in films that really should be mostly on the cutting room floor because feck all is happening, there's plenty of that too.

0/10

I'm generally avoiding this one anyway as I don't feel it can bring anything new in terms of cinematography and the premise for the story is probably shaky, but just as a reference point what was your opinion on the original 300?

300 is an enjoyable comic book romp through a moment in history.... I'd give it 6/10 (a five is good on my scale)

Although I did enjoy the 300 sort-of-sequel, the main thing it lacked for me was the shouting muscle of Gerrard Butler. He's been in some utter pish before and since, but I can't imagine anyone else as Leonidas. Without him everything felt a bit less flat and exciting.

It was the unadulterated repetition of the same CGI over and over that really bored me senseless... slow it down, speed it up, show some super 3D splurts of blood, over and over... that and the lack of a coherent story line: sequel? prequel? who knows? ... oh and the rousing speeches..."I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees." yawn.... feck off... and whilst you're fecking off, get yer fecking head fecked off too, with a hefty dose of 3D CGI blood... I mean, what's in these people? Muscle, organ and bone? Not likely... just hollow blood filled CGI twerps.... it worked in Shogun Assassin, but not here.

Tonight was Timecrimes (Los Chonocrimes)... I love time travel movies but many of them are utter utter tripe... this one however really delivers. It doesn't dwell on flashy sci-fi effects, fight scenes or any of those shenanigans... just one average bloke trying to cope in an unusual situation. It may be full of holes if you're inclined to look for such things (thus spoiling any film that requires a leap of faith), but putting the real world aside, this is a brilliant time travel film.. IMHO of course.

Watched the remake of Carrie last night and although i enjoyed it the original was far better.the lead role,Choe Morentz is far too pretty to be the victim unlike Sissy Spacek in the first version. The ending is far weaker too,the original had the stunning split screen which the newer version does not and the music from the first was awesome, something else lacking in the remake.

So,although i liked the movie i will stick to the far better original.

My second movie last night was Phantasm 3,as a huge Phantasm fan since 1979,i have nothing but good things to say about this franchise.
