Bottle Rocket, thought it might be worth a watch due the Wes Anderson connection. It was watchable I guess but just not very good.

You couldn't pay me to. Raid is one of the most perfect action films I've ever seen.

My comment was more about the completely unnecessary remakes that Hollywood seems to persist with. Asia and Scandinavia have been pillaged in recent years, and the English speaking versions are a pale imitation of the originals. Saying that, they don't even look that far abroad, having modernised and castrated many classic horror films from their own shores. And ours: nobody should ever be forgiven for Wickerman.

This rant wasn't aimed at you @MontyVeda by the way. You just sparked my outrage about cinematic atrocities. Which @welsh dragon started in the first place ^_^
Agreed on the Wickerman (and the like (The Italian Job & Get Carter FFS))... but there's a big market for foreign language remakes for all those people who "can't watch subtitles"... and in my book, a dubbed version is a big no-no as that's an insult to many good foreign actors.

To be fair, Let Me In isn't a bad version of Let The Right One In, and i reckon the writer did quite well out of two film adaptations of his novel.

It also works both ways though... check out Lady Terminator, an Indonesian remake/rip-off of Terminator where they turn it into a soft porn flick with elements of eastern mysticism... She Mates, She Terminates! ... truly dreadful, but a hoot non the less.... (skip to 49mins 30secs for atrocities to both Hollywood and the Ford Capri).

TBH, I love a bad movie as much as a good one... but they've got to be really really bad.

Totally get where you're coming from, I just dislike the reasons for doing it. And you're right, a dubbed version of anything is an abomination.

Hadn't realised that about Let Me In, I might give the remake a shot.

Tonight I shall mostly be watching Sin City. Even if the uncut version proves unnecessary, I will still enjoy watching Toby Maguire getting eaten by wolves.

Let the right one in is still the better of the two, so you won't gain anything from Let Me In... it's just better than expected (ie, not an abomonation).

Re: Sin City.... is it the Recut & Extended version? if so... be warned.... they've split the story into multiple mini-films... so the "Over 20 minutes of additional footage" is actually about 5 minutes extra, the rest being the very long end titles of each mini-film.

It's good, especially the extra bits in Marv's story... it's just odd and slightly disappointing the way they split it up.

enjoy!

edit...just learned there's another Sin City movie due out in August :bravo:

Aye, that's the one. It does say that it's turned into four mini films on the box so I'm prepared for a weird edit. Glad there's more of Marv, he was one of my favourites.

It came with the book as well, which is one of Miller's that I've weirdly not read. Will do so afterwards for a compare and contrast.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I'm downloading superman, man of steel from sky. That is what I will be watching tonight. Some have said it is good. Can't wait.

Well ladies and gentlemen. Just finished watching superman, man of steel. Excellent film. I was worried it wouldn't be as good as the ones with Christopher Reeves, but I wasn't disappointed. Great film. Excellent cgi. Good story. 8/10. Can recommend this film.

Ok. So I watched Jarhead. About a unit of marines based in iraq during desert storm. Good film, good story. Worth watching 8/10

Just found this at HMV for £2.99, figured at that price it was worth a punt, feeling a lot more enthusiastic about it now.

It turns out the copy I bought was Canadian so is Region 1 so won't play on my European Xbox! The bi-lingual packaging should have been a tip-off, but as a Francophone I didn't even notice. Brilliant...

Got through half of Mariachi last night - a long ride and run finished us off. It's as awesomely silly as I remember it - looking forward to the conclusion this evening, and probably half of Desperado.
