I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
The TV series Friday Night Lights is well worth a watch.
Thanks, I've heard of that but not gotten around to watching it, I think it was based on a film

Concussion starring Will Smith

Based on a true story (and those words always make me shudder) about a pathologist who realises that there is a link between early onset dementia in ex- professional NFL football players, and the head injuries that they sustained whilst playing the game, despite the helmets and padding that they wear.

Of course, just about everyone initially rejects his findings, especially the sports governing body. So it's more or less one man against the world......

I don't know how much the true facts have been "massaged" to make a coherent story, and it's certainly not an action film in the sense of punch ups and car chases, but I enjoyed it.

I have never tried to give a score to a film before. Maybe 7/10.......

Ivan's Childhood - a Soviet-era (1962) film about a 12 year old orphan boy spying for the Russian forces during WWII. Fascinating in its depictions of the relationships of a doubly-foreign (communist/military) society about which we know very little. The easy rapport between officers and men, while doubtless somewhat contrived, is also clearly rooted in some kind of truth. The central performance is excellent, the direction strong, and some of the b/w cinematography is breathtaking. Art-house for sure, but well worth the watch.

Not exactly the most demanding of plots, more a collection of gloriously over the top fight scenes.

Entertaining enough, 6/10.

Funniest film of the last 12 months. 8/10[/QUOTE]

I assumed, wrongly, that it was a remake and had planned to boycott it.

I'll give it a go I think. Getting good reviews!

Really liked remember the titans. For some reason I seem to like American Football movies*; I enjoyed The Blind Side and Invincible too
Both fine movies. I very much like the redemption via sport messages beloved of American "sports" movies though I've never watch one about Basketball. Eight Men Out is also a superb movie.

*American Football often seems to produce unlikely miracle wins, e.g. the Vikings this weekend, by unfancied unfashionable underdogs. I used to think the films were bs in this regard until I watched Moneyball (OK a baseball movie) and did some research.

The original is really good fun. Watched it recently and it's a lot scarier than I remember!

There's a version of it set in space which is pretty good too, called Zathura.

Narrated by Willem Dafoe, right? I 'rented' it via Curzon Home Cinema but was thwarted at every attempt to connect an internet-capable device to my television, so didn't get to watch it. It was made with music live recorded by Sydney Philharmonic, or something like that! Got great reviews.
That's the film. I urge you to see it, preferably on the big screen. Some of the things that people do on mountains are quite insane. Hat's off to them.

If you want shite, watch Killer Mermaid.

None of it makes any sense, and I actually wanted all the victims to die, which hasn't happened for a while. Some of the location shots were really good, so for that I'll give it...

2/10

I think you mean The Grey, as the only film called Grey Wolf is about Hitler and doesn't have Liam Neeson in.

Argo, about the rescue of six Americans from Tehran after the US Embassy siege and hostage-taking. It was certainly tense but it wandered far from the truth in the drama of their departure on a Swiss flight. In fact they strolled through the airport quite uneventfully early in the morning before the Revolutionary Guards came on duty.
