Bad Batch - netflix original - gives a new take on the prison system.
Bizarre casting of a chubby looking Keanu Reeves and Giovani Ribisi (sneaky pete) but we enjoyed it. 8/10

Goodfellas. A cracking piece of work. What a loathsome culture. What a horrible bunch of people. What a good movie!

The Omega Man.

Charlton Heston brilliantly portrays the paranoia and slow slide into insanity of the last man alive. Tense plot, all made before CGI came along so it has a certain solidity and realism you just don't get these days. The remake - I Am Legend - was a travesty.

9.5/10.

I was going to go see it as i am a bladerunner fan , i have 4 versions of the original film but i saw it was close to 3 hours and mrs ck needed new glasses, car MOT etc im thinking i can buy the DVD for how much is costs to go to the cinema.

Sell the car, or a kidney.
Go see Bladerunner 2049 - preferably on the biggest screen you can find.
Best film I've seen in many years.

Cage Dive - 2/10

Marketed as the third film in the Open Water "series", for purely cynical reasons, this really is awful. A storm leaves some Americans stranded out at sea, hungry sharks come along, and that's pretty much it. I actually wanted everyone to get eaten, as they are supremely irritating and unlikable.

Open Water was a really clever bit of low budget film making, the "sequel" had nothing to do with it, and this just cashes in further. I'd be very annoyed if I was Chris Kentis.

Gregory's girl. I remember going to the Hulme Aaben cinema to see this. Most of the players were non actors. Still funny and reminded me of my youth, except for the accent..
9/10

Hell and High Water (1954)

Cold war submarine thriller set when men were men and ladies were precious little things for the men to leer over. In that sense the film is out of time, almost cringeworthy.

However, Richard Widmark (one of my favourite actors) single handedly foils a plot where the no good pinko commies are attempting to nuke the US. Some decent drama, good sets and remarkable special effects for a 63 year old film.

7/10. Would probably be 9/10 were I reviewing it in 1954, but society and social behaviour changes, and the film suffers a touch for that.

Bar Sport (Italian). A film about a bar in Bologna about friendship and quite tall tales about sport. One of the reasons I mention it on here is it has some exaggerated tales about the Giro d'Italia on it . A film with some cycling clips/animation in.

Charade - Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, both on top form (are they ever anything but?) in a twisty-turny rom-com-thriller, with able support from Walter Matthau, James Coburn and Paris. A tight script with some great one liners and a plot that keeps you guessing - one of those class movies they don't make 'em like anymore. Easily 8/10.

War for the Planet of the Apes. 7/10. Visually very impressive, but content-wise it was not as good as the first or second installments. It's quite a long film (2:20 IIRC) but they seemed to drag it out for far too long before the final scenes. It was a very odd and unbelievable plot, some very odd characters and I think they thoroughly messed up when it came to how the Apes and humans reacted to certain situations. Still worth watching though, just a shame about the cheap-sounding plot and the fact that they felt they had to add in an annoying character (think JarJar Binks) that really offered nothing to the film.
