That's right up there with Einstein's professor suggesting he wasn't really cut out for research. Or the record producer who didn't see the market for the Beatles.

In fairness, not being geeky enough to know the exact date on your letter the preview version of BR might have been shonky even if the version we know know is a clear masterpiece.

It Happened Here. An extraordinary film, made by a couple of young Brits who were apparently 16 & 18 when they started making it, with borrowed equipment and volunteer 'actors' (IMDB gives the budget as 'around $20,000') which envisages a Britain occupied by the Nazis after a successful post-Dunkirk invasion. The somewhat rough & grainy look gives it a horrible reality, and its portrayal of a Britain which has indeed 'kept calm and carried on' is really quite chilling. The many collaborators, at all sorts of posts & positions, ring all too true, and make you think of the many jobsworths and little Hitlers you've come across who, you feel, would indeed be entirely comfortable in such a world.

Just come back from watching the new blade runner. very slow build up but spectacular acting.

Having watched the original movie YEARS and YEARS ago. maybe i wasnt too sure what to expect but I like how it played out. Maybe i was expecting something with a lot more action.

I'm just watching the first Blade Runner.Looks interesting and what I like about it is there are no mobile phones in it,yet.

I've avoided watching it all these years but I don't think I will watch it fully this time either.

Looks interesting.... and on YouTube too so I'll definitely check it out.

Did you see an old TV show called An Englishmans Castle? Sounds similar in premise; set in a 70s Britain that's been a province of Germany for over 30 years. Worth a look if you can find it, worth watching again if already seen.

Rings the slightest of bells, tho' no, I've never seen it. I'll see if I can track it down. PS. It's on YouTube. Excellent! PPS No it isn't. Bah! It claims to be, but turns out it's just a link to some dodgy site I want nowt to do with. I shall have to do a bit more digging...
