Life. Astronauts on board the International Space Station capture a scientific exploration vessel heading back from Mars. Contained within the Mars soil samples is a very strong, intelligent and pissed off micro organism which grows rapidly. Think Alien, when the Alien films weren't garbage.

The Walk (Netflix)
To deal with one of the elephants in this film's particular room, no, this isn't as good as "Man on Wire", the documentary covering Philippe Petit's tightrope walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in 1974.

It's not bad though - Joseph Gordon Levitt's accent hovers on the edge of Officer Crabtree like parody, but the film really shines once the walk begins, with the sense of the ludicrousness of their undertaking, and its danger and beauty leaping from the screen. Oddly, what doesn't come across so well is Petit's drive and forceful personality, which is almost tangible in the documentary. If you have to choose one to watch it's Man on Wire all the way, but if you've already seen that, and want a Hollywood-ised version of the escapade that gives a better sense of the peril during the walk itself, this is worth seeing.

Rise of Planet of the Apes. The first episode of the most recent remake of the series. 'twas very good indeed. Great story, action, and superb acting and character particularly from the apes, especially Ceaser, their leader. Only slighly weak point was the cruel warden at the ape sanctuary who was a bit clumsy and stereotypes but did serve the plot. Far better than I'd expected - easily 8/10

Thelma and Louise.

Two slovenly criminals go on the run in a stolen car. Guaranteed to make the law abiding apopleptic with rage.

On the plus side you get to glimpse a young Susan Sarandon not wearing an awful lot, but that alone isn't enough to elevate this piece of rubbish to watchable status.

3/10.

Is it?

I mean, this is exactly my kind of story, my kind of film, but I've started it three times and just can't stick with it.

Took me more than one go too. I'm a great fan of PKD's books, and it is a good film but not an easy watch. Hard to give a score for it, but I think it is a good film.

Wickedly cool film.
But how many gears did that bike actually have ? This bit made chuckle.

Iron Man II.

By the time they'd blown their budget hiring Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell, they'd run out of money for the important stuff...Iron Man himself. Some of the non action scenes where Stark is in the Iron Man suit are appalling, the suit looking like its been made from melted down polystyrene hi fi packaging.

An enjoyable action romp badly damaged by penny pinching and lack of attention to detail - I guess the producers were feeling a bit smug after the popularity of the original, but had forgotten what actually made it popular in then first place.

5/10.
