Great musicals: Oklahoma (obviously)?but how about Bugsy Malone, and does Breaking Glass count as a musical? And though a Disney Musical Jungle Book is great filmaking which brings a tear to my eye just as it did when I first saw it as a littlw boy nearly 50 years ago

Great musicals: Paint your Wagon. Obviously.

Clint talks to the trees... but they won't listen to him.

I've not seen it yet, but T2 is on the agenda for today. My friend and I are meeting early for a pint in a pub we used to love but has drastically changed over the last decade or so.

Seems fitting.

Bugsy Malone... good shout but a year earlier than Grease.
Breaking Glass is an excellent film with music in it, but it aint no musical.

Maybe this diversion should have its own thread.

Law Abiding Citizen.
Gerard Butler, difficult not to like him, plays a decent guy who takes grizzly revenge on the perpetrarors Of his wife and child's murders. You feel sympathy, a Robin Hood kind of character....but it degenerates into a killing fest of the people who uphold (in his eyes) a system of taking the easiest route, not the route that gives proper justice.
You admire him at first, then slowly realise....bugger, he's nuts.
Excellent stuff.

Trainspotting 2. An excellent sequel to the groundbreaking Trainspotting from the 90s. Even though it doesn't have the impact of the first film, it's still a funny, dramatic and poignant look into friendship, betrayal and, lost hopes and dreams. 9/10

Danny Boyle is the UK's "Scorsese"

Watched the last part of Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. The strangest thing about it was it had a ten minute interval in the middle of it when the screen was blank and they just played music. Of the cast I recognised, only James Fox and Sarah Miles are still alive  Watching Terry Thomas nobble his competitors' machines made me wonder if this film inspired Wacky Races.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I had serious doubts going into it, and although there were a couple of "FFS why have you done that" moments, it's actually a good film, and on reflection I'm pleased they didn't make Porno.

My only real criticism is that they made Begbie fat.

8/10 for me.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.
With my daughter (15) , have watched it with her before and she asked , except this time there was some participation lines and props ( pack of cards for " going home" etc) used.

You reckon he's the sort of guy to sit around wasting his time inside?

What show was the interview on? I'd be interested to see/hear it if I could.
