On a friend's recommendation, we just watched Glengarry Glen Ross. Stunning. Shakespearian. Tragic, in the true sense...as my mum used to say, 'not the sadness, but the inevitability'. Don't think I've ever heard a better script, or seen one better delivered. Just stunning. 10/10, easy. Does this one go up to 11?

Man of Steel.
7/10.
I grew up with the Christopher Reeve version so this was more than different.
Lots of CGI to fill the space, our hero looking strangely like Ron Ely (yes I'm getting on a bit).
Fight scenes were too long and there can't be many buildings left in the USA by now.
On the whole though quite enjoyable.

BTW Why does the lights going out in a power cut make a noise?

La La Land.

Not worth 15 nominations, but perfectly nice escapeism that will leave you feeling satisfied except for the flying dancing bit which will never make sense.

It was okay, you could see the plot from a mile off, but filmed nicely and Jennifer Lawrence is easy on the eye 6.5/10

One of John the monkey's recommendations - Birdemic:Shock and Terror.

Plain awful for the first half - then the "birds" appear...:notworthy:
It is dreadful - I have a soft spot for it, because it's good naturedly inept, rather than cynically appalling, in the way Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen is.

But it certainly resets the bad filmometer quite nicely

Watched because I couldn't quite believe I had forgotten it, but it has been nearly twenty years I suppose.

It took me 3/4s through to remember the whole plot and ending...but only five minutes to want to punch Dustin Hoffmans character until he stopped breathing.

My lord, this film is so up itself it's untrue. But 7/10 for execution.

This is why psychology has no place as the root of a sci fi. Plus, it's not science anyhoo.

3/10 as a film
8/10 as ridiculous entertainment

Even for Gerrard Butler this is stupid, it's basically a hyper violent Shawshank Redemption but even less plausible. Switch your brain off and enjoy the ride.

Saw it a few years back, and though it's ultimately a bit of a let down I thought it had a terrific sense of wonder / menace.

The book it's based on is good.
