An Inspector Calls..David Thewlis Ken Stott
6/10..tho id think the book would be far better...

i phisically bummped into Ken Stott in Edinburgh a few yrs ago..id get knocked of my feet by him now..he's packing it on ...

Not seen the film but we did (ie read) the play in school. Of its time I think.

"The Real Inspector Pound" is Stoppard's much more entertaining parody of it. Typical Stoppard brilkiant word play and all round entertainment

Watched "Get Carter" the Stallone remake. Absolute bag of s*ite. They even changed the ending by letting Jack Carter survive. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back!

Pixels.

Wasn't expecting much, but there was nothing else on and I thought it might be worth a look from a back in the day "down the arcade" point of view.
Actually surprisingly good, especially considering it had Adam Sandler and Sean Bean in it.
Obviously it's not the new Citizen Kane but it passed an hour and a half in entertaining enough style, even if they did totally overlook Battlezone...
7/10.

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

Richard Burton outshines most of the rest of the cast, as expected, although without the depth given by the narrative in the book, his Leammas comes across as unnecessarily terse and grumpy.

It's a faithful adaptation, mostly, and I think that that is part of its problem - it lacks a sense of the internal landscape of the characters, although it does have most of their key moments and dialogue. In particular, the gap between Leammas returning from, and going back to, Berlin simply doesn't have the weight of time that it has in the book. A good attempt, nonetheless.

Southpaw (2015).....Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker......this is my type of film, I love sports based films and in the most it was a good film but nothing really new and a fair bit of storyline that was rushed .... Gyllenhaal was excellent which makes me give it a 6.5/10
I watched this last night. I wasn't convinced in the first screen fight as it would be impossible to sustain that kind of punishment in the boxing ring without deaths or serious injury and no referee would tolerate that sort of blood-letting. Once Forest Whittaker turns up though, the film takes a major turn for the better. The fight at the end that the film is leading up to is a bit more believable but I would have preferred a more definite end rather than it going to the judges.

All in all, I enjoyed it and it gets a 6/10 that's higher than that but forum lore demands ALL films get this score!

Three word soundbite
Room 237 - a documentary about what four people think Kubrick's The Shining was really about. Very interesting to watch but I did think that some people have an awful lot more free time than I do.

Sing Street

A feel good movie about school mates forming a band to impress a girl in 80's Dublin.
Nothing ground breaking, but very good for what it is despite the original music leaving the 80's and wandering dangerously close to McBusted at times...

8/10

I Never Sang for My Father - a stunning film I'd somehow managed to never even hear of, with Gene Hackman playing the dutiful son trying - and failing - to love his declining yet still domineering father. Fantastic, albeit theatrical, script, and strong performances from the entire cast. Not everyone would enjoy it, I suspect, but for me, a definite 8/10, maybe 9.

Avengers Age of Ultron
Better than the other avengers movies.
7/10

Night Crawler
I watched the whole thing convinced it was a remake or based on a true story, but can't find any evidence of it online. Very good.
9/10

Reconstruction of William Zero
A wine and cheese kind of Sci Fi, thought provoking, good but not wholly satisfying.

OK sci-fi. Good action sequences are let down by a plot that never quite seems to have the courage to explore its ideas in anything other than the broadest terms. Sharlto Copley is way too ott as the villain.

If you're happy watching spectacle without saying "Hey, but what about..." then this is worth catching. Jodie Foster is also doing something interesting with her accent in this one.
