Hateful Eight - 7/10

Good story, neat twist, beautifully shot, ridiculously over the top violence, very funny and self aware, but let down by a couple of things...

The accents were properly all over the place. There's a reason certain characters are faking it and some do it well (Tim Roth) but others, most notably Channing Tatum, do not.

Having Channing Tatum listed in the opening credits kind of kills the twist. Once you've been introduced to everyone else and they've made a big point of how they'll be spending the rest of the film in the cabin I started to work out what was going on and picking sides. They should have done a Se7en and left him off.

Total overuse of the term "nigger". This isn't a word I find offensive, and in certain scenes it did make sense, but there were times it seemed as though it was just chucked in for the sake of it which totally pulled me out of the story. My viewing companions agreed.

I'm seeing it again through the week so I'll see if my other mate thinks the same.

found Tron:Legacy in a charity shop for 75p, so made the donation and watched that last night... not great but certainly looks great, could have been a lot worse. Can't grumble for 75p.

Ant Man. It was a Xmas present from a friend in the US who's a costume designer in the movies. She was supposed to work on AntMan, but ended up doing the last Hunger Games film instead (as she'd worked on the first two).

It was an enjoyably silly romp that passed a few hours. I watched it in 3D which probably helped make it a little better than it was.

Sherlock Holmes;the Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law one.

Very silly but good helped by good actors working well together.

I enjoyed both of those. Great escapist fun, akin to James Bond maybe - in the sense of a finely crafted film which is pure entertainment. A reasonable 'homage' (in a French accent) to the original whilst still doing its own thing. I did think the Bren guns (or whatever they were) were a bit out of their time in the 2nd one though, but hey-ho

Child 44.Didnt really enjoy it as its not the usual film id watch.

Talk about the law of diminishing returns. After having watched Child 1 to Child 43, with the concomitant decline in quality you would expect, I couldn't be bothered any more so I didn't watch Child 44.
Honestly, Hollywood just make sequels for the sake of it these days.

Tried to ask at the local cinema when the climbing movie K2 was coming. "k2, we haven't shown k1 yet"

After advice from Marknotgeorge I tuned into A Most Wanted Man.

Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a good but not great performance as a German spook chasing down Al Qaeda financiers in a good but not great film.

A C4 film so don't get your hopes up that the Hoff gets his Uzi out to blast away swathes of terrorist scumbags.
