I know what you are saying Monty. But they put everything into a chase rather then a story. It was fun and the effects were good but was eevting more. Nicholas Hoult was good in it.
When i pressed play i was worried that they'd try to tell me a story rather than give me a mahoosive car chase with loads of stunts and explosions.

I thoroughly enjoyed Fury Road... it would have been disappointing if they had tried to give a Mad Max film 'substance'... i think that's what they tried in Thunderdome and it was a disaster. Fury Road is little more than the 2nd half of Mad Max 2... but it's every bit as much fun (IMHO).

Each to his own I guess, but I though Thunderdome to be a fantastic film with more than a touch of greatness about it.

On a flight back from foreign climes I watched 4 movies.
First up was Danny Collins with All Pacino . A fantastic movie in every sense. The story of an aging Rock star, probrably based on Neil Diamond. Loved it. @threebikesmcginty I can imagine you would enjoy it too.

Second up was American Sniper. I thought this would be your standard American flag waving fare... But it was actually very good. Gritty and gripping with none of the Yankee doodle dandy nonsense.

Third up was Mad Max. Fury Road. I so desperately wanted to enjoy this movie being a huge fan of both the original movies and the actor Tom Hardy. Damn I was disappointed. A car chase can only hold a movie for so long. Well filmed but little on substance.

Last up was Terminator Genysis. I knew this would be crap and I was proved right.

Already on my radar, wonder if it's on BA, using them tomorrow.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

The English language remake. I must admit that I'd thought of this as "the superfluous English language remake" at the outset, and for the first hour or so, but Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and the rest of an impressive cast won me over. (Although Craig doesn't quite convince as the schlubby reporter - I kept expecting him to go all action hero in several of the scenes, and particularly the finale - I suspect that's a failing of my imagination).

This is never going to stack up well against Fincher's serial killer masterpiece "Zodiac", but there's enough of his directorial signature present for that to lend interest too. If "surprisingly good" isn't damning with faint praise, that's what this is.

In what way is Thunderdome as disaster?

Blasphemy!

It is the quintessential mad max.

Not totally sure what was going on there but Hubster enjoyed it. If I had not been doing a crossword while it was on, I might have had more idea as to what was happening.

Last night I was babysitting rather then hoofing it out to meet some other CC'ers.

Nothing much on the TV so decided to watch Hunger Games. And was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Very enjoyable. Am I bad?

strangely compelling despite making little sense plot-wise, being annoyingly manipulative and very derivative of the rather superior Battle Royale, yet as I say, you get drawn in and hooked.

I've just watched one of the most bizarre things I've seen in a long time.

Kung Fury.

I think it's probably best if I give you the Netflix synopsis word for word -
A Miami cop imbued with ninja superpowers travels back in time to kill Adolf Hitler and the Nazis in an arcade game style war.

I sh!t ye not, that doesn't even begin to cover it, you've really got to see it to believe it.
