Gregory Peck is an oddly principled bank robber in the old west. Good old fashioned fun.

Parker

I'm not sure which of the Richard Stark novels Parker takes it's story from, but it's produced an ordinary sort of action thriller, elevated somewhat by Jason Statham. Not worth switching over from Crank, or The Transporter, but not awful. Certainly a sight better than the Mel Gibson reboot of "Point Blank" in the Parker stakes.

San Andreas....it was ok...probably more than ok actually, it sucked me in, had my heart racing a bit especially as the tsunami hit and they raced headlong into it...it genuinely had me.
Shame about the obligatory Stars and Stripes fluttering at the end and the drumbanging, heart rending speech that came with it xx(

Not a film but BBC drama "River" in which Stellen Skarsgard says little and doesless - it is just outstanding ! If rest of series is even half as good this'll be up there with Tinker Taylor, Friends inthe North and the other TV "events" of our time. Based on ep 1 - 10/10

Suffragette. Tremendous evocation of a time and place, good script, great acting and a powerful emotional punch. 8/10.

Good film on BBC2 tonight, if anyone's looking for a way to use up the extra hour we'll be getting: 11.30, The Quiet American, 2002, from a Graham Greene story. Subtle and intriguing; Michael Caine is very good in it.

A properly brilliant film, and one of Caine's best. He deserved an Oscar for it, far more than Adrian Brody moping his way through The Pianist.

End of Watch. Excellent US cop drama. Very well acted from the 2 leads, great characters who you believe and cared about. Shot with handheld, shaky camera to reflect the Youtube/POV/TV cop documentary medium.

8/10

Bone Tomahawk.. A Western Horror movie staring Kurt Russell as the Sherriff of a western town who embarks on a quest to rescue some townsfolk who've been kidnapped by tribe of cannibal cave dwellers.

Good dialogue and slow paced

8/10

I've had this in my Amazon watchlist since it went free to view on Prime, and just got around to it.

Superior action/thriller business, centred on a soldier separated from his unit in a hostile Belfast - the action stuff is well shot, and properly gripping, and there's a lot of complex plot and counter plot going on around his simple desire to survive the night and get back to his unit. Good performances throughout as well.
