I've had this in my Amazon watchlist since it went free to view on Prime, and just got around to it.

Superior action/thriller business, centred on a soldier separated from his unit in a hostile Belfast - the action stuff is well shot, and properly gripping, and there's a lot of complex plot and counter plot going on around his simple desire to survive the night and get back to his unit. Good performances throughout as well.
Watched this and really enjoyed it too!

The Hunt

Guy in small Danish town gets falsely accussed of being a child molester and his life is turned upside down.

Tense and horrifying. Brilliant performances from the lead and his accuser. Clever ending.

Well worth two hours of reading sub-titles.

That Evening Sun. Tennessee farmer busts out of a nursing home and heads back to his farm only to find it's been leased, by his son, to a feckless redneck. The story takes place over the course of about a week. Small but perfectly formed cast, beautifully shot film. Recommended.

First time I've seen this since its release, and it looks a bit hokey in places, given what its influenced since. The nightmarish visions are still properly horrible, but I do think the film undercuts a lot of the tension it's built up with its ending.

If its all just the random firing of his dying neurons, then what's the point of the conspiracy stuff? The Robbins character can't have known all that, surely, so it renders it all a bit moot. The relationship storylines, and the parts about holding on to life work better, knowing the twist.

The disc I rented had a good feature in which the director talks about what he was trying to do with the film, and I found that that worth a watch too.

Mikkelson at his haunted best. The ending is as powerful as The Mist - properly took my breath away.

Not last night, 7am* yesterday morning:

Spectre

Thought it was very good, perhaps not quite up to Skyfall but I'd recommend it.

* - it's currently showing 24 hours a day at our local multiplex. We were the only ones in the 7am showing, which was nice, and we were told that there had been no-one in since 3am, so I doubt this will become a regular thing...

Couple of things:
Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Two hillbillies (Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame and Tyler Labine who looks curiously like James Corden) attempting a quiet weekend of fishing & relaxation at their new cabin in the woods get accused of being mad axe murderers by a bunch of college kids. Hilarious hokum!

Love, Rosie. A likeable enough romcom if you like that sort of thing. What spoilt it for me was that the bits set in Britain were actually filmed in Ireland, and the bits in Boston filmed in Toronto. I noticed an incorrect (for the UK) roadsign, and spent the rest of the film looking out for other wrong bits!

I don't mind these films, although I didn't think this one of the stronger entries in the franchise. Better than a lot of big budget stuff though.

Shaolin Soccer
Really fun, daft kung fu business. If you enjoyed the more comedic Jackie Chan films, I think you'll like this.

Spectre

Misogynist with anger management issues shoots dead baddies who can't aim straight, over and over and over. Whilst defying the laws of phyics. And taking part in brawls that leave no bruises. Boom. Bang. Kaboom.

Utter hokum. Glossy elaborate hokum. Worst of the Craig movies thus far. 4/10.
