Need some good horror films for a Halloween screening we're doing at my place. Any good recommendations? So far, we've got The Thing as top billing.
This weekend I watched From Beyond on Netflix. Saw this 27 years ago, still a great horror, same director as Reanimator and based on HP Lovecraft. Great SFX, weird, twisted and completely bonkers. Not to everyone's taste but I loved it 8/10

You've got some cracking suggestions so far. A few more from me:

The Mist
The Descent
Creep
Pandorum
Cabin Fever
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Zombieland
They Live
Jeepers Creepers
Exorcist
The Shining
30 Days of Night
Pan's Labyrinth
Dogs oldies (Dogsoldiers, but I'm leaving the autocorrect because it's funny)
Event Horizon

The original Amityville Horror
The Exorcist
Alien, without doubt the most accomplished horror film in terms of claustrophobic fear factor
and, believe it or not, Poltergeist.

Note that all of the above had sequels/remakes that never even came close.

The Cabin in the Woods. It's completely brilliant. Porbably the best horror film I've seen.
Best for horror fans though, I think.

Depends on the sort of scare you want. If you want something that grabs you by the throat and never lets up, I think it's hard to beat [REC], or The Descent.

If you can be sure that none of you have seen it, The Ring (Japanese version) does creeping dread very well.

If you want mundane evil, Funny Games is good.

Driver. Mysterious driver dude, doesn't say much; mechanic, stunt driver, getaway driver. Get's involved with a neighbour, get's involved with the neighbour's husband when he come out of chokey. Needless to say it all goes horribly wrong for just about everyone. Slightly overdone on the grat-vi. Good cast and well shot.

Good movie imo

Hunger Games

Monitored my son watching it (10).

He preferred the book, and his imagination. Was disappointed the fireballs weren't "the size of a fist" like in the book. He liked the "mutts" though.

Great way of putting it, Cabin is almost an 'in joke' about horror films. In fact it's almost two films for the price of one, depending on your level of knowledge of the genre.

I love that film - amazing score too. I have the Zane Lowe curated rescore on my DVR box, and am steeling myself to watch it.

I think Winding Refn is a really interesting director - Valhalla Rising and Fear X are both good, rewatchable films of his too.

Going off this thread, we seem to have broadly similar taste and interest in film.

So I feel confident giving you this warning:

Don't. Just don't. It's totally unnecessary and self indulgent bollocks from Lowe. His choices of songs are fine, but pale in comparison to Martinez's brilliant score.

It's like eating a limp prawn sandwich after you've indulged in the finest lobster available.
