Friday night - Revolver: complete dross

Saturday night - Viktor: even worse.

I'll have to stop using curiosity when choosing a film and stick to instinct.

Revolver is a heap of shite. I went to see it in the cinema and sat through the weird credits at the end, assuming (like a lot of other folk) something was going to happen.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I was raging.

Ah Revolver... Guy Ritchie "Back on Form" they told us. I sat through that with my head in my hands thinking 'oh my f*ing god... can this get any worse?' and it did, often.

Macbeth, the new one.

Good points - looked good, almost Kurasawa level of looks good. Good acting by and large, Lady M especially. Good dark age feel aided by the genuine Scotish accents. The witches were another high spot. Fantastic Scottish scenery - Skye and perhaps elsewhere.

But, playing (rather cheesy) cod celtic music over some of the speeches - not so sensible if you actually want to here the words - hey it's Shakespeare - the words are the thing !

Banquo's ghost scene - hard to follow, i dare say baffling to anyone who didn't know the play. Whole thing quite hard to follow if you don't know what's what I suspect. Shame they cut "double double toil and trouble" too, some of the other cuts fair enough (eg the door man scene) which perhaps helps the serious feel of this version.

And the biggest problem of all - it drags! This takes some doing - Macbeth is an action play which rattles along and has and needs pace.

Brave but unsucessful -essentially a lot of it is a bit like a reading of the text with background images. Works, arguably, for.Prospero's books - Grrenaway's take on the Tempest, but not so much here.

So 8/10 for effort, maybe 5/10 as a movie

Driver. Mysterious driver dude, doesn't say much; mechanic, stunt driver, getaway driver. Get's involved with a neighbour, get's involved with the neighbour's husband when he come out of chokey. Needless to say it all goes horribly wrong for just about everyone. Slightly overdone on the grat-vi. Good cast and well shot.

Scream - not my usual fare, but I quite enjoyed it. To be both arch & genuinely quite scarey at the same time is no mean achievement.

Agreed, but i think i preferred the remake as i could relate more to the updated storyline (i shall hang my head in shame if necessary).

Head hanging isn't necessary - the remake really is very good and well considered, though I think the original is superior. I don't particularly care for the book if I'm honest, I find it a bit clunky and hard to read.
