Finally watched Dances with Wolves, after all these years, and was very pleasantly surprised.
I sort of half-remember from when it came out it was a film that divided opinions, with a lot of people hating it for being simplistic and for rather glaringly bearing the marks of having been produced by Kevin Costner, directed by Kevin Costner and starring Kevin Costner. I don't feel terribly strongly about Mr Costner either way, but I thought he emerged from this with some considerable credit, both his performance and the film as a whole actually hearteningly free of mawkishness and excess sentimentality, telling a truly tragic story with dignity and just about the right level of gravitas.
I felt both uplifted and depressed by the end...one sign at least that you've watched A Significant Film. Definitely an 8/10 for me, if not a 9/10.
