I just finished Prometheus as well, coincidentally (watched over two nights).

I really want to like it - interesting production design, and the germs of interesting ideas, but it's so disjointed and meandering

Just ask yourself, why did any character do anything that they chose to do? We were ranting about it in my gaming group on Monday night, apparently a top scientist (geneticist by the sound of it, I missed his name) was tweeting while watching it. He got very annoyed. The only quote I remember was "old DNA? What does that even mean? My fathers DNA is older than mine. Gah!" They even chose the 'running away from a falling log' scene for the trailer which had us shouting "turn left, turn left" at the screen, just like it did in the cinema...

Mad Max on Friday at the cinema :-) So I'm not saying I have taste or anything!

Killing season with Robert de Niro and John Travolta, quite liked it 8/10

Regarding Prometheus though It could've been so much better, big let down for an Alien Saga fan, explains why Prometheus 2 is taking so long

Just finished watching The Cabin In The Woods. Brilliant. Best horror I've seen since, well since I can't remember.

It's funny, irreverent, satirical, yet very dark in places.
Very clever and original plot, and great acting, especially from Richard Jenkins.

8.5/10

Cabin in the Woods is brilliant, and a refreshingly original look at horror in a field of mindless remakes.

How many of the monsters did you recognise when it all went horribly wrong? Apparently all of them are from other horror films. Also, I thought it was great that Hadley got to see a merman.

If you try really hard you can find reasonable excuses for big chunks of Prometheus, largely by presuming they didn't hire the best of the best, they cobbled together a team of crap losers who they wanted to fail (second rate teams is an Alien theme point after all). But even then you are reaching because just too much doesn't make sense and pretty isn't story. I mean, the biologist scared of a skeleton but wanting to cuddle the space cobra. The geologist with the super GPS robots getting totally lost. It goes on and on.

I just hope P2 gets a decent script writer in who creates a story that's worth the time to sit and watch. Then add the pretty around the edges.

What was Iris Elba's accent all about? I didnt watch the film to the end, but I think I was very tired. I will give it another go.

Not that many; it was all moving kind of fast at that point.

Great film 8.5 / 10 for me (Alien would be a 9/10)

I'd give it 8.5 for concept and the stuff it hinted at but the actual film itself....did we see the same thing? I can watch all manner of crud if there are enough redeeming features but the ludicrous characters, and their frankly bizarre behaviour, damaged the film beyond repair. There's gung-ho and then there's implausible, even if they'd recruited from the bottom of the gene pool they couldn't have created a team of such imbeciles. Yet we're expected to believe that's what they did for such an important and expensive mission.
